One character mistake ruined it all
Revisado: 01-16-25
I was enjoying the book and the narration and then the author had the protagonist do one of those really stupid moves you hate to see in the movies. I was immediately reminded that the author was a male who knows NOTHING about the instincts and actions of the "protective" single mother. I lost all Investment and interest in the rest of the book. From that point on, I couldn't ignore the other flaws, so I just got through to the end. I can't tolerate bad movie plot holes in my reading. It's just sloppy.

Heralded as an instant classic of fantasy literature, Maguire has written a wonderfully imaginative retelling of The Wizard of Oz told from the Wicked Witch's point of view. More than just a fairy tale for adults, Wicked is a meditation on the nature of good and evil.

shocking
Revisado: 12-26-24
I decided to read the book because I liked the movie that ended on a cliffhanger. They are not even remotely the same. in fact, I wondered who could read the book and think that all it was missing was a musical score. The fact that a female's story was narrated by a male added to its weirdness.
As far as the literary style is concerned, i can say one thing. I suppose this is an author you either love or hate. I didn't love the book. So much of it was boring with shocking acts and descriptions thrown in to jar the reader from the expectations of the children's book that inspired it. By the end of the book, I didnt care about any of the characters.

disappointing plot frame and other things
Revisado: 06-22-24
I would have given the story one star if not for the author's note at the end. The use of a frame plot in this final book made no sense. The second book ended with the main character and her unborn baby clinging to life after a kidnapping had put them in harm's way. Therefore, beginning the next book describing the ending where the main character has ended up with her adductor does not make the reader curious to know how this came about. After reading the third novel, I felt like I wasted my time reading about a main character who is just stupid, materialistic and naive. By the end, I was tired of the plot, I wasn't invested in any of her relationships, and was quite bored with the sex scenes. I simply wanted to finish what I had started. In spite of a terrible plot, the actress reading the book saved this novel.

Historia
Judith Hampton was as beautiful as she was proud and loyal. Her dear Scottish friend from childhood was about to give birth, and Judith had promised to be at her side. But there was another reason for the journey from her bleak English home to the Highlands: to meet the father she had never known, the Laird Maclean. Nothing prepared her, however, for the sight of the Scottish barbarian who was to escort her into his land...Iain Maitland, laird of his clan, a man more powerfully compelling than any she had ever encountered.

The reading was good, but there was one big complaint. The voice the reader used for Ian grated on my nerves. I've actually read the book several times in the past. I love the story and the dialog the author wrote for the male protagonist. However, hearing the annoying accent for Ian made me cringe whenever he spoke. I could have tolerated it more if the reader had chosen to use that particular voice for a minor character with less dialog.

Not the best compared to the first book
Revisado: 01-28-24
I've been a fan of Sharon Draper books for a long time. However, there were moments when the book seemed to have dragging plot. There was an attempt to cram a lot of adolescent issues into the novel with subplots of minor characters. Suspense was built and left hanging in the story unresolved for too long. By the end, I just wanted to finish the book because I no longer cared about the characters.

good info-boring listening

The book had some truly insightful information. However, the author should pay someone to read the book. She was very monotone, reminiscent of the teacher from Ferris Bueller's Day Off.

good writing against a ridiculous plot
Revisado: 10-06-22
I decided to read this novel to see how the author would rationalize the main character being embroiled in a murder in which she had no familial ties to the victims. Every time the detective asked her to accompany him, I asked why. Her constant inclusion in an ongoing murder investigation is farfetched. It was even more farfetched than the average Murder She Wrote plots. Why would anyone keep involving this house flipper in their investigations? What was worse was sloppy wrap up of the murder. I often was lost as to who was the murderer and why? By the time the plot started pointing to the murderer, i didnt care. Basically, the impossible protagonist makes the entire Jazzy Mystery series an insult to the intelligence. I would like to read more from this author, but not from this series.

House-flipper Jazzi Zanders and her cousin Jerod have found their latest project. The property, formerly owned by the late Cal Juniper, is filled with debris that must be cleared before the real renovation begins. But a trip to the attic reveals something more disturbing than forgotten garbage - a skeleton wearing a locket and rings that Jazzi recognizes. Tests confirm that the bones belong to Jazzi’s aunt Lynda, who everyone assumed moved to New York years ago after breaking up with Cal. Soon enough, the whole family is involved, sifting through memories and rumors....

Although the constant inclusion of a civilian in a murder investigation was a little farfetched, there was enough of an interesting plot to keep me engaged. There might have been one unanswered question in the story.
