Historia
Is it possible to disagree politically and love unconditionally? The reaction of evangelicals to political and cultural shifts in recent years revealed what they value most. Lurking beneath our Bible-laced rhetoric, faith claims, books, and sermons is a relentless drive to WIN! But the church is not here to win. By every human measure, our Savior lost. On purpose. With a purpose. And we are his body. We are not in it to win anything. We are in it for something else entirely. That something else is what this book is about.

Theology Matters
Revisado: 06-16-23
While this is a very important and timely topic, Andy Stanley isn't a reliable source for biblically accurate application. His theology is a train wreck and mishmash of his own making. Every one of us is susceptible to this same danger of thinking that we are the "smartest guy in the room", and the only one that has wisdom or vision to understand the current cultural moment in light of scripture. As with many (most) of Andy's sermons and books, he over simplifies and misapplies the text of scripture to fit his narrative. While I believe this books topic addresses a serious issue and every Christian should think and pray very deeply about it, this book isn't the place to go for well reasoned or historically informed exegesis.

Teenage girls are taking courses of testosterone and disfiguring their bodies. Parents are undermined; experts are over-relied upon; dissenters in science and medicine are intimidated; free speech truckles under renewed attack; socialized medicine bears hidden consequences; and an intersectional era has arisen in which the desire to escape a dominant identity encourages individuals to take cover in victim groups. Every person who has ever had a skeptical thought about the sudden rush toward a non-binary future but been afraid to express it - this book is for you.

Secularly Prophetic
Revisado: 04-01-22
One of the most difficult, heart-wrenching books to read because of the topic. This book is not for the feint of heart. While the book is written from a secular perspective, it offers a VERY well researched and comprehensive look at the topic. While I wouldn't agree with most (any?) of the solutions provided, I can agree with many/most of the conclusions regarding influences that are driving the phenomenon.
Some key take-aways:
The internet is a hive of scum and villainy.
The medical "experts" are anything but experts.
Public schools are not your friend.
Parents must be the primary teachers and nurtures of their children.
Social media is a cesspool of depravity and misinformation.
News media, Hollywood, large corporations, government, big tech, etcetera, are all-in on the transgender insanity.
Liberalism/Progressivism is poison.

Historia
A time-honored Puritan classic, Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices is a must-listen for every Christian, especially those who feel consumed by sin. Precious Remedies Against Satan's Devices exposes Satan's devious methods and offers biblical strategies to help Christians avoid and overcome temptation. The messages contained in this classic work are as useful today as they were when the book was first published in 1652.

Good But Not Great
Revisado: 02-26-21
Great content on the subject, unfortunately it is very, very verbose even for a puritan work. While it may have been the subject matter I found the book to be very slow, again, even for a work by a puritan author. I would catagorize it as tedious.

Historia
In a world that will not tolerate the mention of sin, and in churches where it has been defined only in generic, sociological terms, one could make a good case could that repentance is one of the least used words in the English language today. Repentance is essential to true Christianity - Jesus Christ himself said that if we do not repent, we will perish - and there are few better guides that have existed in this or any other area of spiritual experience than Thomas Watson.

Tedious
Revisado: 12-16-20
While the topic is very important and the book is indeed useful, I found the authors use of the text a stretch in some areas and wholy inappropriate in small sections elsewhere. The book itself is not all that organized in its presentation, which also detracts from the importance of the topic being discussed.

Historia
Intellectuals and Race is a radical book in the original sense - one that goes to the root of the problem. The role of intellectuals in racial strife is explored in an international context that puts the American experience in a wholly new light. The book explores the incentives, the visions, and the rationales that drive intellectuals at the highest levels to conclusions that have often turned out to be counterproductive and even disastrous, not only for particular racial or ethnic groups but for societies as a whole.

Fascinating
Revisado: 10-13-20
It's not about the answers that this book provides, its about the questions that it asks. There is an absolute dogmatism in our society perpetrated by the MSM, politicians, and the academic elite that is anabsolute sacred cow not to be questioned.
Thomas Sowell not only questions it, he also shows how ridiculous the intelligencia looks while they are so very busy tilting at windmills.

Historia
John Charles Ryle’s best known works have been reissued and widely read over many years. The fine qualities of his writings have ensured that his books are still popular and useful. This volume has become a classic work and is known and loved by many throughout the world. In days when evangelical preachers are accused of being either superficial or dull, we have here a great example of one who was neither of these things. As Bishop Ryle applies his texts, the listener will find his soul examined.

In my Top 5 Christian Works
Revisado: 05-12-20
Exceptional work on Sanctification! It presents in very clear fashion what the bible has to say regarding the supernatural product of justifying faith. As a Christian is is easy to place an inordinate amount of focus [over time] on right believing (root) to the detriment of right acting (fruit). The bible presents these two topics in complete harmony and one being the necessary product of the other. The book is well written, biblically grounded with many, many scripture references and allusions, and read is a way that does not distract but actually contributes to the weighty subject. This work by JC Ryle easily falls into my top 5 recommemded books. It is only proceeded by works such as Calvin's Institutes and Thomas Watson's A Body of Divinity. I highly recommend this book!

Historia
In Rules for Reformers, Douglas Wilson poaches the political craft of radical progressives and applies it to Christian efforts in the current culture war. The result is a spicy blend of combat manual and cultural manifesto. Rules for Reformers is a little bit proclamation of grace, a little bit Art of War, and a little bit analysis of past embarrassments and current cowardice, all mixed together with a bunch of advanced knife-fighting techniques. As motivating as it is provocative, Rules for Reformers is just plain good to hear.

Practical Theology
Revisado: 04-10-20
This is a very practical "where the (theological) rubber meets the road" kind of work. While I always love the witty humor and wordsmith skills of Doug Wilson, their use in this work keeps the topic from getting pedantic and overly preachy. This book is the inevitable outworking of a high theology and a spirit led application of of it in time and space. Many of these concepts have been in my own mind for quite some time and it is interesting to see the spirit reaffirm them through this work. Even if you don't agree with every conclusion in the book it sis still a great resource to get you thinking about education, vocation, "cultural engagement", etcetera.

Just Read It
Revisado: 04-10-20
If you want to better understand your Muslim friends, neighbors and co-workers, this book will go a long way to help. The first half is a behind the scenes look into the thoughts and inner life of a devout Muslim. Around chapter 20, the story pivots and shines light on how those around Nabeel shared the good news of the gospel in very practical ways. Friends challenged his Islamic Worldview by addressing the historical underpinnings, theological texts, and inner consistency (or lack thereof). We get to hear the impact each exposure to the truth of history and the teaching of scripture had on him. While there are many great apologetic resources out there to reach Muslims, this book is unique. Nabeel shares from his own perspective the thoughts and emotions that he experienced.
I highly recommend this book!

Great theological overview of Christianity
Revisado: 04-10-20
Other than the very odd pronunciation by the reader of some people, places, theological terms, and the oft repeated references to "Psalms..." and "Revelations.." when referencing the biblical text, it was a very good book and easy to listen to. I highly recommend this book. I would say that it is an excellent condensed overview of Christian Theology with an obvious emphasis on Theology Proper. There are several other parallel resources, each having their own unique emphasis and range of discussion. I would compare this work to that of Stephen Charnock, A.W. Pink, J.I. Packer, and Stephen Lawson.
