Historia
Twenty-four-year-old Phoebe Hawley is on a quest to find her family a home. On the road with two siblings, 12-year-old Maydean and five-year-old Willie-Boy, Phoebe is out of money, out of gas and out of patience. Now the only things she owns in abundance are Hawley backbone and Hawley pride - neither of which she can trade for food or gas.

The lively world of Phoebe Hawley

Would you listen to Finding Home again? Why?
I certainly would. I was unsure at first about whether I would understand the strong southern American accent, but it took no more than minutes to get into it and the narrator does an excellent job. But then, he had great material to work with – Phoebe Hawley is a spitfire with a mission. She is determined to find a home for herself and her siblings. When she does, she'll get her parents and mentally impaired sister to join them. The plot line is simple, but we certainly know what Phoebe wants, and we're with her on every step of her mission to get it. So we suffer every setback along with her, and we will her on to success.
Finding Home is ideally suited as an audiobook, because the dialogue is astonishingly vivid. I laughed out loud at some of the things Phoebe said! And the descriptions of Gage Morgan's scrap yard, house and land had me right there.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Finding Home?
There wasn't one standout moment for me. What I liked most of all was the well-rounded characters, from little Willie-boy, the asthmatic child who only wanted to play with the others and who found a true father figure in the wary Gage Morgan, to the precocious Maydean and damaged Dorie, to the hero and heroine themselves.
Which character – as performed by Mark Hall – was your favorite?
Has to be Phoebe. She's cunning and clever, funny and overbearing, but above all she's determined and passionate and proud. She's skinny and inexperienced, but she'll use everything she's got to get what she needs for her family. In other words, she's small in build but larger than life, and you can't help but love her.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
A heartwarming story of determination and passion.
Any additional comments?
I don't normally read straight romance, but I didn't regret reading this one. Jackie Weger's prose carries you along with delight. A quick, easy read – I'll be back for more!
