Historia
Born a privileged child of America’s Gilded Age, Marguerite Harrison rebelled against her mother’s ambitions, married the man she loved, was widowed at thirty-seven, and set off on a life of adventure. Hired as a society reporter, when America entered World War I she applied to Military Intelligence to work as a spy. Over a decade, Harrison’s mysterious adventures took her to Europe, Baghdad, and the Far East, as a socialite, secret agent, and documentary filmmaker. Janet Wallach captures Harrison’s daring and glamour in this stranger-than-fiction history of a woman drawn to the impossible.

The daring nature of her character.
Revisado: 05-09-24
I loved the description of all the accounts of the international social and political situations of the time. I was somewhat annoyed by the lack of information or follow up on her tuberculosis and her relationship she had with her son. I either missed or didn’t know what accommodations she had made for her son while she was away for so long. Also, and apparently the book was written in the second person, so everything was, “she said, she was”…..etc. The narrator was okay but it got tedious listening to the same voice reciting the text. It lacked a personalization that one usually gets with a biography. Amazing woman though, especially her ability to withstand great physical and environmental hardship. Even more amazing given she grew up as a heiress!!

Underwhelming
Revisado: 11-18-23
I’m somewhat surprised that I actually finished this book. I just kept waiting to be caught up and I never was. For some reason the intrigue and tension fell flat. The characters were interesting and the narration was excellent.

Historia
Sage Winters always knew her sister was a little different even though they were identical twins. They loved the same things and shared a deep understanding, but Rosemary—awake to every emotion, easily moved to joy or tears—seemed to need more protection from the world. Six years after Rosemary's death from pneumonia, Sage, now sixteen, still misses her deeply. Their mother perished in a car crash, and Sage's stepfather, Alan, resents being burdened by a responsibility he never wanted.

Awful
Revisado: 02-05-23
I’m not finishing this. The main character is just nor believable. After endless description of the horrific conditions and the equally horrible people that work there, she just keeps begging and pleading for someone to believe her. Even though there was such a place as Willowbrook and the conditions were not good, I just couldn’t buy into this story on any level. The writing was bad and the narrator was way to whinny. I should have read some reviews before purchasing this piece of junk!!!

This story is really lame
Revisado: 05-28-22
It starts out pretty good but becomes unbelievable when the young singer is attacked and tells no one. It gets absurd when it happens a third time. She then takes off and it’s never explained why. Too many loose ends! I love Dolly as do millions of us but her narration is thick tongued. It just does not totally sound like her. I stuck it out until the end but it was a stretch.

Wonderful!
Revisado: 09-24-21
This was so well narrated that I strayed thinking and dreaming with an Italian accent! The characters are so memorable that they are still in my head since I finished the book a week ago. The novel covers every emotion possible, but the one that stands out is the anger at the unjustness and bigotry that can be leveled at one group of people. The background research was impeccable. Lisa Scottoline has always written great legal thrillers, but this historical fiction has so much more depth and richness to it than the other. Thanks to all responsible .👍💕loved it!

Historia
Viktor Orlov had a longstanding appointment with death. Once Russia’s richest man, he now resides in splendid exile in London, where he has waged a tireless crusade against the authoritarian kleptocrats who have seized control of the Kremlin. His mansion in Chelsea’s exclusive Cheyne Walk is one of the most heavily protected private dwellings in London. Yet somehow, on a rainy summer evening, in the midst of a global pandemic, Russia’s vengeful president finally manages to cross Orlov’s name off his kill list.

A change of course, maybe not for the better?
Revisado: 07-24-21
I’ve read all the Gabriel Alon books. He’s a very well filled out character and the plots are intricate and intriguing. If I hadn’t heard Daniel’s interview on the morning show, I might have known something was amiss. I did know from that interview that he went back and rewrote his story when the rioters hit the steps of the capitol. It’s to bad because he wound up doing an injustice to BOTH story lines. Neither the beginning story line nor the ending one were complete or satisfying. The first one with “The Cellist” was rushed and incomplete. Then he tacked on the Washington story as an afterthought. Not good, and disappointing .
