Needs better editing

Interesting but a bit too long. The reader is extremely annoying as every sentence ends with emphasis on the last word. I will certainly avoid this narrator in the future.

A little happiness would make this a better story

I was so looking forward to reading this prequel but found it somewhat disappointing. It was tragedy after tragedy, negative outcome after negative outcome. Just a few pages of something going right for the main characters once in a while would have been appreciated. I found it frustrating to predict every stupid action that would occur. At times I just stopped listening for several days out of sheer annoyance. Yet still worth listening to but not a five star story.

A different narrator

I enjoyed the book very much but felt the choice of Ken Jennings as narrator was not the best. He did a good job but his voice is too familiar to Jeopardy fans. For the first third of the book which is about Alex’s early life, I had to keep reminding myself that this was Alex’s story being told by Ken not Ken’s story. A professional narrator would have been easier to accept.
