Historia
A magisterial history of Indigenous North America that places the power of Native nations at its center, telling their story from the rise of ancient cities more than a thousand years ago to fights for sovereignty that continue today. Long before the colonization of North America, Indigenous Americans built diverse civilizations and adapted to a changing world in ways that reverberated globally. And, as award-winning historian Kathleen DuVal vividly recounts, when Europeans did arrive, no civilization came to a halt because of a few wandering explorers, even when the strangers came well armed.

Outstanding book -both narrative and narrator
Revisado: 04-03-25
The author tells the story in a clear, comprehensible, and well-documented narrative. Outstanding narrator. Really enjoyed listening to this book though the story is shameful for the Euro-American descendants. It should never be forgotten that we live on stolen lands

Historia
Drawing on vast new data that reveal Americans' changing behavior, Putnam shows how we have become increasingly disconnected from one another and how social structures - whether they be PTA, church, or political parties - have disintegrated. Until the publication of this groundbreaking work, no one had so deftly diagnosed the harm that these broken bonds have wreaked on our physical and civic health, nor had anyone exalted their fundamental power in creating a society that is happy, healthy, and safe.

Historia
Leslie Marmon Silko's sublime Ceremony is almost universally considered one of the finest novels ever written by an American Indian. It is the poetic, dreamlike tale of Tayo, a mixed-blood Laguna Pueblo and veteran of World War II. Tormented by shell shock and haunted by memories of his cousin who died in the war, Tayo struggles on his impoverished reservation. After turning to alcohol to ease his pain, he strives for a better understanding of who he is.

Powerful!

Incredibly beautiful narrative. This book has great power in it to heal broken spirits, it is a ceremony in itself. Made elegant, accessible, and deeply penetrating by the performance.

Outstanding
Revisado: 07-26-23
Outside of the part on the 7 years war, in which Indian people had a much greater role, the book is superb history, definitely worth the listening experience. Performance is good though.
