Historia
After Tova Sullivan’s husband died, she began working the night shift at the Sowell Bay Aquarium, mopping floors and tidying up. Keeping busy has always helped her cope, which she’s been doing since her eighteen-year-old son, Erik, mysteriously vanished on a boat in Puget Sound over thirty years ago. Tova becomes acquainted with curmudgeonly Marcellus, a giant Pacific octopus living at the aquarium. Marcellus knows more than anyone can imagine but wouldn’t dream of lifting one of his eight arms for his human captors—until he forms a remarkable friendship with Tova.

Lovable characters
Revisado: 03-03-24
I don’t think there was anything about this book that I did not like. Anytime, there’s a story where an animal is involved and loved by a human I can’t help but like the story. This was such a story and characters were so real and so likable. Every time I put the book down I couldn’t wait to get back to it. And to make it even better the performance was perfect.

Not a story I would normally choose

It wasn’t the type of book that I reach for clamoring to see what happens next but a good story overall.

Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This book was very interesting. I can say that after reading this book I will look at people from that area in a different light. Being raised in the manor in which they are it's nearly impossible to break the mold. Lucky for JD he saw what was beyond the hills he was raised in and had the courage to leave.

A little disappointed with the ending.
Revisado: 05-03-17
What did you love best about The Circle?
Very descriptive in explaining things that are much simpler to see than hear.
What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)
There were parts in the book that had a surprise outcome, but I didn't feel it ended well.
Which character – as performed by Dion Graham – was your favorite?
Mae's character was my favorite, but a little disappointed in her final outcome.
If you could take any character from The Circle out to dinner, who would it be and why?
It would definitely be Kalden.
Any additional comments?
If you see the movie (as I did), certain characters from the book were missing. I have to say that the ending in the movie was more enjoyable.

Historia
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.

Chick Book
Revisado: 04-09-17
What would have made Evelyn, After better?
I had such a hard time getting through the first half of this book. We read it for our book club and I hate to leave a book half read. The writing seemed infantile to me. The topic and also the description of the lovemaking scenes.
Has Evelyn, After turned you off from other books in this genre?
Yes
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Her voice was not the kind of voice you like to listen to. Maybe it could have a bit to do with the fact that I thought the story could have been (a Lot) better.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
I have to admit that after the first half I kept going back because I was waiting for something exciting or "different" to happen. It did pull me in.
Any additional comments?
A much disappointing ending!!

John Keating was marvelous in reading this book
What could Sara Baume have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
It started off kinda sad and I thought it would lighten up but it didn't.
What does John Keating bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
Loved the Scottish accent. I think that added to the story miraculously.

I like a book I can learn from.
Revisado: 10-22-16
Would you listen to Elephant Company again? Why?
I liked that this book taught me something about the era and where it took place. I especially like that I learned things about elephants that I didn't know. I would not listen to this book more than once....I don't do that with any book.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I definitely have a deeper interest and respect for elephants. Billy Williams, of course was my favorite character because of his deep respect for animals.
What does Simon Prebble bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
His performance in reading this book was quite exceptional, just a little fast in the detailed parts.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
I liked the part where they had to change the terrain in the jungle and then it was questionable whether the elephants would be able to climb it.

Reminds me of what I've forgotten.
Revisado: 10-22-16
What did you love best about What Alice Forgot?
I loved the way this book was written. I was not sure at first at the way Alice was handling her lost memory. But as the story went on it became clear how she was approaching things at her own speed. It can make you think about how relationships in your own life have changed in just 10 years.
What did you like best about this story?
We never really give it a thought about the directions our lives go in until something happens. The decisions we've made and people we know all have bearing on our lives. In essence, Alice got a second chance to redo her life and make the decision that would make and keep her happiness.
What does Tamara Lovatt-Smith bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
As with other Liane Moriarity's books I've read, Lovatt-Smith's voice is perfect.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
I never listen to a book in one sitting. I always enjoyed coming back to this book. And unlike other books I'm not truly interested in...with this book I never forgot where I left off.
