Beautifully written, Liane Moriarty does such a masterful job of mixing human emotions and complexities with humor and a suspenseful story. She is brilliant... and this narrator is always exceptional!!

Simply beautiful
Revisado: 06-06-24
I truly loved this bittersweet story. The characters were well developed, and I was rooting for love in every chapter. Always sad when a great book comes to an end. Excellent narration from Erin Bennett as well, her many character voices are always so good.

No matter what the world throws her way, at least Ruthie Beamish has the house. Lovingly renovated, located by the sea in a quiet Long Island village, the house is her nest egg - the retirement account shared with her ex-husband, Mike, and the college fund for their teenage daughter, Jem. The catch? To afford the house, Ruthie must let it go during the best part of the year. It's Memorial Day weekend, and Ruthie has packed up their belongings for what Jem calls "the summer bummer": the family's annual exodus to make way for renters.

So well done
Revisado: 01-05-24
Well written, great descriptions, the author wove the storylines together beautifully and blended intelligence and humor seamlessly. I hate having a book like this one end! Looking forward to reading more by this author for sure.
Julia Whelan brings everything to life, truly the best narrator for any story.

In fact Owen's new wife may - inexplicably - be Jenny's new best friend. Sensing this, well, relationship isn't helping her move on, Jenny trades the Manhattan skyline for her hometown up the Hudson, where she'll be able to bask in her sister Rachel's picture-perfect family life...and hopefully make one of her own.

Cute story, bad narration
Revisado: 02-11-23
The author’s book was interesting, but the voice of Rachel was like listening to a strange robot app, truly awful. I’m shocked someone approved this, it was the weirdest reading I’ve suffered through on audible. :( The author should be so disappointed, the Rachel voice made this almost unlistenable! Xe Sands narrated Jenny and she was much better, the only reason I was able to finish this book.
It’s amazing how narration can completely make or break a book…I guess that’s why this one is in the free section unfortunately.

Historia
A perfect next listen for fans of Abbi Waxman and Katherine Center, Can't Take It Back is a fast-paced and relatable debut telling the interconnected stories of four women over the course of a kindergarten school year. Huddled on their favorite park bench in a quiet Seattle suburb, Holly, Avery, Zoe, and Sasha might look like they've got it all figured out - but there’s more to their stories than meets the eye.

Can’t take back the time it took to listen
Revisado: 01-06-23
The idea for the story was interesting, but sadly it just wasn’t executed very well. Stilted writing, awkward character dialogue (which didn’t capture how people actually speak… so it sounded weird with the narrators), storylines that were a bit implausible- one example: couple has problems for a few months so the immediately decide to divorce…no thought to therapy or their 2 young kids. And on and on. Seems like this was written by a 20something who assumes what it will be like later in life, and possibly doesn’t have children yet.
Narrators were mediocre as well.
Glad this was free, kept hoping for something better at the end but instead it was a wasted 10 hours.

Narrators voices don’t match characters
Revisado: 09-30-22
While the narrators are talented, their voices were at least a generation older sounding than the characters they were supposed to represent. It was confusing. The main character was 49 yrs old, and the narrator’s reading and inflection sounded like a woman in her 70’s. I spent a good portion of the story trying to reconcile the voice with the age I thought the characters were, it was somewhat distracting from the story. Good story, and I enjoyed it despite the incongruous character voices. (I’ve enjoyed other books these narrators have read, they are talented when paired with the right characters!)

Historia
Every object has a ghost. There is a small yellow backpack - half unzipped, mouth yawning to the pavement, contents strewn around it (a banana, an exercise book, a pair of scissors) - abandoned on a suburban footpath. Ten feet away, the rubber stamp of tyres, resisting clamped brakes, mount the curb and cut across the path. The tracks come to an end at a crippled stop sign. The street, a tree-lined suburban road dappled in late-afternoon sunlight, is calm. But anyone walking past can feel the ghosts: the prickle on the back of their necks that tells them something happened here.

Compelling story
Revisado: 03-10-22
Creative and interesting storyline, suspenseful and worth a listen. The author came up with a very compelling and mind boggling story.
My only grumble is that the narrator, while good, was doing an American accent but is probably Australian and mispronounced many words. :). The story might have been better if set in Australia vs trying to set it in the US… a few phrases that are not used commonly in the US tipped us off that the author was not American but was trying to write a story taking place there. A little editing would solve the grammar inconsistencies that were a bit distracting. Still worth a listen though!

Something is not right in Bayport. After a series of unfortunate (yet harmless) pranks, it looks like Frank and Joe have caught their suspect surprisingly early. Their classmate, Seth Diller, has taken his love of filmmaking a bit too far. But shortly after Frank and Joe confront Seth, there are fresh outbreaks of Seth-like pranks. Except these aren't as harmless. After a bit of investigating, the Hardy Boys uncover evidence of the Red Arrow - a group that will stop at nothing to bring chaos and crime to Bayport's peaceful existence.
