Historia
Lifestyle journalist Katrine escaped past traumas by moving to a coast renowned for seaside holidays and natural beauty. But when a vast hoard of human remains and prehistoric artifacts is discovered in nearby Brickburgh, a hideous shadow engulfs her life. Helene, a disillusioned lone parent, lost her brother, Lincoln, six years ago. Disturbing subterranean noises he recorded prior to vanishing, draw her to Brickburgh's caves. A site where early humans butchered each other across 60,000 years. Upon the walls, images of their nameless gods remain.

Started out with promise, let down ending
Revisado: 05-21-23
First of all, should have been read by a British woman. The key characters are British women. An male, American reader was just all wrong. The build up was great but went wonky towards the end and left too many loose ends. I hate loose ends.

Historia
In Geisha, a Life, Mineko Iwasaki tells her story, from her warm early childhood, to her intense yet privileged upbringing in the Iwasaki okiya (household), to her years as a renowned geisha, and finally, to her decision at the age of 29 to retire and marry, a move that would mirror the demise of geisha culture. Mineko brings to life the beauty and wonder of Gion Kobu, a place that "existed in a world apart, a special realm whose mission and identity depended on preserving the time-honored traditions of the past."

Very Meh for me
Revisado: 08-16-20
I read Memoirs of a Geisha maybe once a year. When I found out that Arthur Golden based his story off of this woman, I thought awesome. This must be amazing. It fell short for me.
I can tolerate a bad reader if the book is good, but the material was only made worse for me by the reader. I found The way Mineko described her life as too good be true in certain parts and also found it very hard to like her as a character. It was nice to hear the background and understand some of intricacies of the secret world of geisha but it just didn’t grab hold of you attention and make it impossible to stop the way Memoirs of a Geisha does. I guess that’s the difference between a novel and non fiction.

Amazing story
Revisado: 10-21-17
I love this series. The characters really latched themselves in my heart. Cecilia is now one of my favourite heroines. You will be completely enthralled and enchanted by this story. This last book is gonna be one of those few books I’ve read that have permeated my heart and mind and be hard for me to get over. You will completely fall in love with Vel Mastarna. I did. Beautiful book. Definitely a worthy read.

Don’t let the first book deter you
Revisado: 10-17-17
I’ll be honest, I hated the narrater in the begging because it sounded like an American forcing a British accent, but after a while I got used to it. I love the story and how it was able to surprise me. Cecilia will grow on you. Not gonna lie, she’s very annoying in the first book. Watching her grow into a proud, confident character is very entertaining. I fell in love with Mastarna. I love his character very much, scars and all. If you want to know more about the ancient Etruscans, this is a great series....once you get passed the first book.

Just ok...

I couldn't find myself caring for these characters. I was very interested in hearing from the perspective of these two characters...but I just couldn't get into the story or make myself find them interesting. Just meh.
