This was an amazing read and listen! The narrator captured the main character’s tone perfectly.

This is a sad, hopeful, tragic story narrated through Demon’s tenacious and enduring perspective. It was full of his humor which helped balance out the tragic life he persevered.

Every time I believed things would turn around, another blow would land - but still, Demon pressed on. The horrible part was that he and his community were prayed upon and taken advantage of by big pharma. Not only that, but Demon was also the pawn for many of his foster parents, and continuously taken advantage of there as well.

Demon has so much to overcome in his life! This was one of those books I could not stop listening to… I had to know what was going to happen next. Barbara Kingsolver captured the true story of many Americans’ through the fictional story of Demon Copperhead. We should all be questioning our doctors when medicine is prescribed, and then do research on it before talking substances that may hurt us in the end while lining pharmaceutical company pockets. This alone would lower the cause for children to land in the foster system.

The description of the sex scenes in the manuscript were extreme. I did finish the book - but I really disliked it. Logan was very unbelievable. What woman would stay in that house?

Overcoming Adversity

Wow, this was such a powerful read. I’m glad the author read it herself too.

She overcomes adversity in amazing ways. Because of her experiences, she is innovative and creative.

As a parent, I can’t imagine doing the things these parents did. And I am just shocked the foster system never got involved!

Immigrant Story

This was an interesting read, in that I learned more about the immigrant’s culture. I appreciate that the author did not feel she needed a Nobel prize to write a memoir, but there was no real rising and falling action in this memoir, which caused it to be somewhat boring.

Excellent storyline!

I’m a WW II historical fiction junky. This novel did not disappoint. The plot line was well developed with a nice twist at the end. I loved the development of the female characters and seeing how they faced adversity head-on in a male dominated society.

The voice!!!

The story sounds good, but the voice of the reader is not good. Very flat and puts me to sleep. Yikes!

Ouch - can’t do it

The plot line sounded interesting but I just couldn’t do it. By 25 minutes in, I had to stop. It was like listening g to my middle school students gossip and talk about how amazing they are.

The summary sounded good, but…

The story was interesting, but I was not impressed with the abruptness of the ending. I felt like I was reading a high school paper where there was a surprise ending that really just didn’t fit.
