Historia
Harry Potter has never even heard of Hogwarts when the letters start dropping on the doormat at number four, Privet Drive. Addressed in green ink on yellowish parchment with a purple seal, they are swiftly confiscated by his grisly aunt and uncle. Then, on Harry's eleventh birthday, a great beetle-eyed giant of a man called Rubeus Hagrid bursts in with some astonishing news: Harry Potter is a wizard, and he has a place at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. An incredible adventure is about to begin!

Some lines should never be crossed. Police corruption, an investigation that ends in tragedy and the mystery of a little girl’s silence – three unconnected events that will prove to be linked by one small town. While detective Cormac Reilly faces enemies at work and trouble in his personal life, garda Peter Fisher is relocated out of Galway with the threat of prosecution hanging over his head. But even that is not as terrible as having to work for his overbearing father, the local copper for the pretty seaside town of Roundstone.

Revisado: 01-23-22
I have read each one of the Harry Potter series several times and watched each movie at least as many times as I have read the books. But after listening to the first in the series. I just couldn't stop!
Obviously the stories always delight but listening to Jim Dale's voices and character interpretations makes listening such fun!

Jacqueline does it again
Revisado: 11-11-21
After reading several reviews about this book, I decided to give it try. I am an unwavering fan of Jacqueline Winspear, most especially of the stories and characters within her Maisie Dobbs series. Some of the reviews that I read about this book were quite negative and compared this book to the Maisie Dobbs series by saying it is nothing like those books. But of course it isn't, this is not a Maisie Dobbs novel!
This book is set in a pre-WW1 England and is every bit as engaging and interesting as any of Ms Winspear's previous novels. I found the characters likeable and the story believable. I didn't expect the ending to be the way it was but that happens.
Overall I really enjoyed the novel and was pleased with the performance of the reader.

Always a pleasure
Revisado: 09-14-21
I have always loved listening to the Maisie Dobbs series of books. Jacqueline Winspear is a fantastic author who gives her characters depth and feeling. These characters develop more and more over time, leaving me to feel as if I know them all. And to her credit Ms. Winspear has written them so that each book can stand alone or can be read in succession because she explains small details in case you hadn't listened to the ones previously published.
Listening to her books (each one multiple times, I might add!) makes me feel as if I am visiting with dear friends.
When I learned about this new title, The Consequences of Fear, I couldn't wait for the audio version to be released. Ms. Winspear has not let us down with this newest title! In addition to some of the older characters, she has introduced us to new characters that I hope we will see developed further in future books.

Historia
It's early 1938, and Maisie Dobbs is back in England. On a fine yet chilly morning, as she walks toward Fitzroy Square - a place of many memories - she is intercepted by Brian Huntley and Robert MacFarlane of the Secret Service. The German government has agreed to release a British subject from prison, but only if he is handed over to a family member. Because the man's wife is bedridden and his daughter has been killed in an accident, the Secret Service wants Maisie - who bears a striking resemblance to the daughter - to retrieve the man from Dachau....

Always a pleasure to listen to
Revisado: 05-06-21
This Maisie Dobbs novel was as fun to listen to as others have been. Orlagh Cassidy always works to create different voices and accents for each character, and the regulars use the same accent from one book to the next. I always enjoy Jacqueline Winspear's stories. She provides ample twists and turns throughout the story and always brings everything together at the end for a satisfying conclusion.
