Historia
Prosecuting attorney in the Manson trial Vincent Bugliosi held a unique insider's position in one of the most baffling and horrifying cases of the 20th century: the cold-blooded Tate-LaBianca murders carried out by Charles Manson and four of his followers. What motivated Manson in his seemingly mindless selection of victims, and what was his hold over the young women who obeyed his orders? Now available for the first time in unabridged audio, the gripping story of this famous and haunting crime is brought to life by acclaimed narrator Scott Brick.

Author loves telling us how awesome he is
Revisado: 03-26-21
I had a hard time pushing through the last half of the book when the author tells us over and over how he did this smart thing or that smart thing and how amazing he is. Ugh. Having never learned the specifics of the Manson story before, I thought the story was interesting, but if you're interested in the topic, I would recommend looking for one of the other dozens of books on the subject.

This was a really intriguing and compelling story. I stayed up late several nights just to listen to it.

Historia
Joseph K. is an Everyman. His inconsequence makes doubly strange his arrest by an officer of the court, made with no formal charges or explanation. Disoriented and consumed with guilt for a "crime" he does not understand, Josef K. must justify his life to a "court" with which he cannot communicate. Through the court's relentless bureaucratic proceedings and absurd juxtapositions of different hypotheses of cause and effect, the whole rational structure of the world is undermined.

My friend's favorite. I couldn't finish it.
Revisado: 04-04-18
The story and writing are intentionally vague in an attempt to create a sense of uneasiness or insecurity as is felt by the protagonist. But to me, it was just annoying.

Historia
Jacob Fugger lived in Germany at the turn of the 16th century, the grandson of a peasant. By the time he died, his fortune amounted to nearly 2 percent of European GDP. Not even John D. Rockefeller had that kind of wealth. Most people become rich by spotting opportunities, pioneering new technologies, or besting opponents in negotiations. Fugger did all that, but he had an extra quality that allowed him to rise even higher: nerve.

Great subject, descent writing, mediocre reading

Great subject, descent writing, mediocre reading. It is interesting and worth the time, but I would have died if I had listened at normal speed.

Historia
The Fall of the House of Zeus tells the story of Dickie Scruggs, arguably the most successful plaintiff's lawyer in America. A brother-in-law of Trent Lott, the former U.S. Senate majority leader, Scruggs made a fortune taking on mass tort lawsuits against "Big Tobacco" and the asbestos industries. He was hailed by Newsweek as a latter-day Robin Hood and portrayed in the movie The Insider as a dapper aviator-lawyer.

Intriguing story. Perhaps a few too many side stories to follow in an audio book.
