Historia
Argyll, Scotland. July 1832. After a trying few months in Edinburgh, Kiera and her husband and investigative partner, Sebastian Gage, are eager to escape to the Highlands with their three-month-old child. Kiera is overjoyed for her cousin Rye and her friend Charlotte, who are being wed in a private ceremony at the estate of Rye's great-uncle, the Marquess of Barbreck, in what seems to be the perfect wedding party. But when Kiera is invited to peruse Barbreck's extensive art collection, she is disturbed to discover that one of his most priceless paintings seems to be a forgery.

Great story
Revisado: 06-20-24
As usual, Lady Darby solves a multilayered mystery with grace and grit along with her wonderfully supportive partner Gage. I love the interactions with baby Emma and the dynamic between Bree and Anderley. The additional layer of Lord Henry’s presence cements the role of the novel’s relationships. This goes well beyond a superficial cosy mystery. Kudos to the author and the narrator of the audiobook.

I loved the character development and suspense. The plot was complex enough to sustain a great story. I look forward to listening to the other books in the series, hopefully with the same talented narrator.

Historia
Juliet Templeton didn't embark on a risky London season in search of a fairy-tale. Fluttering hearts, yearning glances and stolen kisses are for starry-eyed debutantes, not disgraced, penniless females approaching spinsterhood. But when her quest to find a dull, respectable husband leads her to grumpy, maddening, brilliant Lord Cross, her foolish heart overrules her head, and insists on beating for him alone.

The story is well written and perfectly narrated. Lovely character development, and as for the first book in the series, Anna Bradley depicts a fascinating description of rumours, the illusions they weave and their impact on lives.

Thoroughly enjoyable

This slow burn novel follows the development of the relationship between a young woman who is initially prejudiced against the hero due to a poor choice of his some time back.
I really enjoyed the emotional intelligence of the main characters, as well as their awareness of their own weaknesses.
Even though we know that it will end in the HEA, suspense still builds through different plot devices.
I remain unconvinced the narrator is a good fit for the novel, however.

Great first paranormal by Hazelwood

I love Ali’s other books and wasn’t sure if she would be able to pull off a shift (wink) in genre. How silly of me!
The world building here is outstanding, the characters very well developed, and the mystery/suspense element masterfully conducted. There’s still a STEM element with Misery being a world class hacker, which sets the novel apart from others in the genre.
Something I enjoyed was catching a glimpse of Lowe’s point of view at the opening of each chapter as well as the epilogue. Nice touch.
I hope the next novel will focus on Serena, as the epilogue intimates. Well done, Ali, and thank you for having the courage to explore other genres.
The audiobook was also well executed, with the voices of the actors perfect for their roles.

Historia
Elmwood Springs, Missouri, is a small town like any other, but something strange is happening out at the cemetery. Still Meadows, as it's called, is anything but still. Funny and profound, this novel in the tradition of Flagg's Can't Wait to Get to Heaven and Thornton Wilder's Our Town deals with universal themes of heaven and earth and everything in between, as Flagg tells a surprising story of life, afterlife, and the mysterious goings-on of ordinary people.

Superficial narrative
Revisado: 12-03-20
I felt betrayed by this book. It starts off nicely enough, focusing on the two main characters. Then, the story accelerates at such a pace that the reader cannot keep up with all the new characters, who become increasingly shallow. The novel attempts to cover a broad swathe of history but fails miserably as the plot becomes utterly ridiculous. I marked it finished half way into the story. It will be the very first book that I will attempt to return to Audible.com.
