Historia
When Sophy is sent to stay with her London relatives, she finds her cousins in quite the tangle. Cecilia is besotted with an attractive but feather-brained poet, Hubert has fallen foul of a money-lender and the ruthlessly handsome Charles is engaged to a pedantic bluestocking who seems to bring out the worst in him. Fortunately, Sophy has arrived just in time to sort them all out - but Charles is eager to rid his family of her meddlesome ways. Has the grand Sophy finally met her match?

Delightful characters, witty dialogue!
Revisado: 04-28-25
I deeply love this novel; I think it's funnier each time I read it again. I thought the narrator's performance was good, although I did disagree with her on her pronunciation of a couple of words, but that doesn't signify. overall the narrators pacing and character differentiation was really good and made it an enjoyable performance without intruding on the story itself. The actual story by Ms. Heyer is wonderful: the characters are believable, the dialogue is delightful, and the situations become a bit madcap, but somehow still feel grounded. Georgette Heyer's historicity is impeccable, and her stories are always enjoyable!

Historia
Christmas should be a time of joy and warmth, but for Miss Marple, it brings a haunting sense of dread. When she meets a charming couple during a holiday stay, her instincts tell her something is horribly wrong. The woman's life, Miss Marple fears, hangs by a thread, though everyone else sees nothing but holiday cheer. As a veil of deadly intent lurks beneath festive decorations and warm firesides, Miss Marple races against the ticking clock of the holiday season to expose a sinister plot.

Wrong narrator -- get "Midwinter Murder" instead
Revisado: 12-24-24
I did not like the narrator for this piece. it is a short story about Miss Marple, but this narrator is an American man. Having a Miss Marple story read by a man with an American accent was just off- putting and not as fun to listen to. If you want to listen to this story, buy the Midwinter Murder collection instead. It's got a bunch of other stories too, and the narrator for this same story in that collection is a British woman, which just goes better with the overall story I think. As far as the story goes, I think it's kind of a tragic little story, but Agatha Christie can do no wrong. I really enjoy Miss Marple and her observations on the world.

Excellent, clear narration
Revisado: 11-27-24
I really enjoy this audio Bible and have been through it several times. I think the narrator does a wonderful job in terms of pronunciation and overall pacing; you can tell he did his research and doesn't trip up on names of people or places. He is not overly dramatic and lets the text speak for itself which is the most important thing. I highly recommend this for daily listening, long trips, and any other use!

Historia
When an experiment to study quantum uncertainty goes spectacularly wrong, physics student Bill Rustad and his friends find that they have accidentally created an inter-dimensional portal. They connect to Outland - an alternate Earth with identical geology, but where humans never evolved. The group races to establish control of the portal before the government, the military, or evildoers can take it away. Then everything changes when the Yellowstone supervolcano erupts in an explosion large enough to destroy civilization and kill half the planet.

Loved the world building!
Revisado: 06-25-24
I thoroughly enjoyed the worked building in this story. It took familiar concepts and reworked them together in an interesting story that kept me glued to the (metaphorical) page. The narrator also did a great job of bringing the story to life without intruding upon my perception of the narrative.

Historia
Ryland Grace is the sole survivor on a desperate, last-chance mission - and if he fails, humanity and the Earth itself will perish. Except that right now, he doesn't know that. He can't even remember his own name, let alone the nature of his assignment or how to complete it. All he knows is that he's been asleep for a very, very long time. And he's just been awakened to find himself millions of miles from home, with nothing but two corpses for company.

Hopeful Sci-fi
Revisado: 06-05-24
I really appreciated that the drama came from the situation the people were in rather than their own personal foibles. I loved that the character was someone you could get behind and root for, and that there was a logical reason that he was the one in this position. Also, as a science teacher, I was delighted by the inclusion of accessible science and a story that showed why knowing all these things can be important. I don't want to give things away, but I thought the story was excellent!!!

Historia
A vivid and affectionate portrait of the residents of an English country town in the mid-19th century, Cranford describes a community dominated by its independent and refined women, relating the adventures of Miss Matty and Miss Deborah, two middle-aged spinster sisters striving to live with dignity in reduced circumstances. Through a series of satirical vignettes, Gaskell sympathetically portrays changing small town customs and values in mid-Victorian England....

Lovely story!
Revisado: 01-13-24
I thought the story was delightful. Mrs. Gaskell does an wonderful job of cutting to the heart of a person, their choices and foibles, with simple descriptions, which allows the readers to recognize the characters in themselves and the people they know.
I gave four stars for the performance only because Ms. Scales pronounced Don Quixote as "Dawn Quicks-sit," which may or may not be typical of the British at that time, but which jarringly took me out of the story for a bit. Otherwise, I thought her performance was quite good.

Can you imagine writing to Father Christmas and actually getting a reply? Every year, the children of J.R.R. Tolkien would write to Father Christmas, and the letters they received told wonderful stories of his adventures at the North Pole. These humorous tales are brought to life by Derek Jacobi as Father Christmas, John Moffatt as Polar Bear, and Christian Rodska as Ilbereth the Elf, complete with specially composed music.

Good narrator. Intriguing alternate history world. This was my first PKD book, and I think it helped me keep the plot straight that I'd seen a couple episodes of the show. I will try other works of his in the future.

I loved this book as I loved the original. it's an incredible depiction of both the complexity of the human body and how the church is meant to work. Honestly, it's easy to devour in one sitting or one marathon listening session. The narration is good and not intrusive. I highly recommend it.
