Historia
With the Cold War at a fever pitch, though, a potential assignment is only ever one defector-turned-informant away. Alerted to the possibility of missile activity from the Soviets on the West German border, the long stagnant Department leaps at the chance to restore some of their cache in the intelligence community. Director Leclerc hunts down former field agent Fred Leiser and sends him beyond the wall to East Germany—tying the Department's fate to his.

Excellent performance play Simon. Vance, unfortunately it comes to nothing as this is ridiculously plotted book

As I went through the book, I kept saying to myself will you please come to a point? This book is filled with so much full BS and phony pathos that you get impatient rather than involved

Historia
In this authoritative, fresh, and compelling account of the extraordinary life and enduring work of Dylan Thomas, author of Under Milkwood, A Child's Christmas in Wales, Adventures in the Skin Trade, Portrait of the Artist As a Young Dog, and numerous poems and stories, Andrew Lycett peels back the layers of story that have accumulated around this extraordinarily talented writer, one of the most celebrated and contradictory literary figures of the 20th century.

Bored to death!
Revisado: 12-27-15
After finishing the outstanding biography of Tennessee Williams by John Lahr, I was really looking forward to the bio of another of my favorite authors.
What a disappointment!
It took a real effort to get through the first five chapters which followed an uninteresting litany of family relations to Thomas. I finally gave up.
This book is a crashing bore.

Historia
When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity. Cloning, feel-good drugs, anti-aging programs, and total social control through politics, programming, and media: has Aldous Huxley accurately predicted our future? With a storyteller's genius, he weaves these ethical controversies in a compelling narrative that dawns in the year 632 A.F. (After Ford, the deity). When Lenina and Bernard visit a savage reservation, we experience how Utopia can destroy humanity.

Michael York should stick to the stage and leave narration to the pros.

Outstanding...well worth your consideration
Revisado: 08-29-14
Would you consider the audio edition of Brave New World to be better than the print version?
Absolutely...Michael York's narration and characterizations take this book over the top!
What about Michael York’s performance did you like?
He is a talented actor who delivers a compelling performance. I listened to this book straight through.
Any additional comments?
It is a must listen for those of us who HAD to read it in high school and found it disappointing. This audio version brings out the humor, the cleverness and the pathos that we missed as teenagers. I can't say enough about Michael York's rendition.

Lost classic
Revisado: 06-16-13
If you could sum up The Great Siege in three words, what would they be?
Historic, epic, engrossing
What about Simon Vance’s performance did you like?
Simon Vance's delivery brings the weight of history to this under-told event. You are immersed by his speech but never overwhelmed and never, never bored. Minor details become as vibrant as the battles themselves in his capable narration.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes, yes and again yes.
Any additional comments?
Published in 1961, this history of the Turkish invasion on Malta and its epic defense by the Knights of St John is a truly fine historical account. Six hundred years after the events, it is still a stirring account of heroism, devotion and courage.
