Historia
Logen Ninefingers, infamous barbarian, has finally run out of luck. Caught in one feud too many, he's on the verge of becoming a dead barbarian - leaving nothing behind him but bad songs, dead friends, and a lot of happy enemies. Nobleman, dashing officer, and paragon of selfishness, Captain Jezal dan Luthar has nothing more dangerous in mind than fleecing his friends at cards and dreaming of glory in the fencing circle. But war is brewing, and on the battlefields of the frozen North they fight by altogether bloodier rules.

Standard Fantasy, but with intense Nihlism.
Revisado: 12-12-23
The tropes in this series are pretty standard. Nothing too new. The notable difference is that there are no characters who are good to root for. There's an intense message of "Power = Good," and no deed is top horrifying , as long as it brings you more power.
the story was not compelling, but more bothersome was the lothsome nature of nearly every character. The worldview of the series is entirely Nihlistic.
The reader is excellent. If you want to listen, this is a good reader to hear.
The first book is better than the second, which itself is better than the third. I'd rate books 1, 2, and 3 at 6/10, 4/10, and 3/10, when considering the storytelling, plot, and enjoyability. The plot never developed. There's weren't thing that you wanted to have happen. I just meandered. I wouldn't read them again, and if I could go back, I wouldn't read them the first time.

The Inferno of Dantè is worth listening to.
Revisado: 02-10-17
Somber, but not depressing. John Cleese is a great narrator. It's a short listen, and well worth it.
