What did you love best about The Husband's Secret?

I didn't love it. I found the story consistently sad, but well written. Just not well spoken. .Story was such an unhappy one, a real downer. Situations over analyzed , no joy!

Who was your favorite character and why?

Tess, she was trusting , and she was a victim. Her husband and cousin expected her to accept them, because they had fallen in love, and were so very sorry! ...

How did the narrator detract from the book?

Totally! She seemed to never change her pace of speaking. Pronouncing each word so carefully ans precisely. Ok in description, but do people really talk like that? .Slow and slower. Long pauses between chapters. Everyone talked exactly the same way, even the kids.

If you could rename The Husband's Secret, what would you call it?

" Family Secrets - Hometown USA"

Any additional comments?

I have liked Caroline Lee in the past. She just wasn't good for this story. No heart in it, no depth just description. No feeling for anyone except Tess. Maybe I would feel more if I read it, and let my imagination speak for the characters.

Where does Believing the Lie rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

MEDIUM TO HIGH. THERE WERE TOO MANY SUBPLOTS. I THOUGHT THAT IF I WERE READING IT IN A BOOK, I WOULD PLACE BOOK,MARKS, OR HIGHLIGHTS HERE AND THERE TO KEEP TRACK OF THE MANY CHARACTERS.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

IT WAS TOO LONG COMING, BUT IT WAS A "GOOD SHOCK" WHICH LEAVES IT OPEN FOR MS. GEORGE TO RIGHT ANOTHER TALE OF LYNLEY ETC.. WHICH I WILL READ/LISTEN TO.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

ALITAYA, I FELT SORRY FOR HER, SHE WAS ABUSED BY DEBRA

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

YES! ANNOYANCE! WITH THE REPEATED STATING OF THE FULL NAME OF ALITAYA DE VASQUES DE THIS AND THIS AND THIS EVERY TIME SHE CAME INTO THE STORY! AND. THE BRITISH ACCENT OF THE NARRATOR GRATED ON ME WHEN SHE PRONOUNCED THIS LATIN NAME. AT ONE POINT NEAR THE END OF THE BOOK I SHUT DOWN THE BOOK, IN EXASPIRATION! THINKING "IF SHE SAYS IT ONE MORE TIME I WILL SCREAM! WHY NOT JUST SAY "ALITAYA"? WE KNOW HER NAME."

Any additional comments?

IT WAS A GOOD STORY, BUT THE CHARACTERS, SOME OF THEM, WERE A BIT OUT OF CHARACTER. MOSTLY DEBRA, I THINK. BARBARA HAVERS IS GREAT! AND I LOVED FREDDIE.

Where does The Deep Blue Good-By rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

It's special to me in a very personal way. John D, his gracious wife Dordo, an artist, and I were close friends, They lived in Sarasota and I lived in Fort Lauderdale. At the time I was single, and spent many weekends with them and our other friends on the west coast. I specifically remember sitting with him one late night, sippiing drinks on his patio - they lived on the keys, talking about how he was starting to write serial books with a smart detective hero, he said, like Mickey Spillane. His hero's name was Travis McGee. That was in the 60's, a long time ago. I loved to talk with him, his mind was so sharp, we shared crazy thoughts...our minds going in and out of ideas. He and Dordo were wonderful together. And my love of cats began at his house. AT one time, he said, he had about 11 cats running around - all outside. Only the house pets inside. He wrote the

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

Not really, because I was too full of nostalgia created by the scenes he depicted.

Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?

Of course, Travis McGee, but I also felt for the last woman he helped (can't remember her name) - John D understood women, and how we were used. We talked about that.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I cried a little. For the loss of my friends. I married and have lived in many countries, now in China. Last time I saw John and Dordo was in Naples, where he was researching

Would you listen to The House at Riverton again? Why?

Yes, because it is a haunting story. I am 84 years old, but young in spirit and activity. I lived through WWII, and remember my young woman/girl feelings. This story brought so much back to me. I listened to some partrs more than once. It is a little difficult to follow at times, so I would go back, and re-listen, feeling the same feelings again. I will listen again. Thank you.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

It did as I struggle to figure out what happened down at the boat house. I listen using an Apple Nano, and at times someone wout talk to me, and I would lose my place, and have to go back to find it again. The way the story is put together, going back and forth in time, it was a bit confusing, thinking I missed something. The end was striking, and unexpected.

What does Caroline Lee bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She was marvelous. Brought life and heart to the story.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Maybe. I hadn't thought of that. But it is soo much to take in. Instead I relished going back to it, and when I had to repeat some of it because of the iPod and how it works, I didn't mind hearing again and again many parts. Now it is finished, and I feel a bit sad.

Any additional comments?

I look forward to listening to more of this author's books. She has a marvelous way of description!

The story was much too dragged out, going back and forth - Sylvana and her history, and Janusz and his. It is a simple story. And some of the scenes are well written and presented well by the narrator, but I felt myself getting impatient with going back and forth, and not much happening to move the story forward. Finally, near the end,it began to move. The secrets they had between them, of course they had secrets... they never thought they would see one another again. It was all so sad, but glad it had a good ending. I was impatient listening to this book.

This was rather a let down. Too many characters that didn't do anything much for the story. The retired "madam" (nice word for "pimp") was difficult to endure, her foul mouth, dying cigarette-cancer vocal chords - she, along with most of the characters - were just totally unredeemable, nothing made them sympathetic, not even Alex Delaware was anything like what I used to like. So much seemed to be aimed at how trashy and porny the author could make it. Not a redeemable character in the bunch. The narrator did a good job, though. Sometimes he slipped and made two or more characters sound alike, but overall he was good. Just didn't have characters with anything to say worth listening to. The episode where the killer was exposed was dragged out to the point where I thought the author was getting a high on his own words. The melodrama of the son losing his madam pimp mother and her sister who was left behind did nothing to stir me. Glad when the book came to an end.

The narrator was outstanding, I was in Dublin experiencing the family of Francis. The story was sad, devastating in a way, hard to believe that this kind of thing could happen, maybe a little far out... but it held me. The author's words bring scenes to life in a way that I could see and feel the characters. Some of the characters were outrageous, vivid, could these people be real? Yes, especially Holly, the little girl and her mom. Highly recommend reading/listening, but be ready for some rough language,

The Confession

This book should get no stars. It dragged and was repetitive. I was totally bored and at the same time frustrated. WHEN would it move! Finally towards the end there was a bit of suspense. I stuck with it because I bought it., I felt sorry for the Drum family, but a lot of what he put into this book was stereotyped, not suspenseful. I found myself thinking, several times, that I would definitely write my review when the book would finally reach its end. Sometimes I skipped to another book that was waiting, just to get a break
