60s Sci-Fi Movie

This is a combination of a cheesy sci-fi movie (Space Girls from the Future) and Mars Attacks. The narrator and Mr Weber's writing style make this easy to listen to, but frequently I have to pause it and walk away because of the very cringy-ness of the story. The perfect Space Girl falls from space right into the sail boat of the super awesome best ever navy-seal and the story only gets stronger from there. The writing and narration keeps this as an ok listen, but my goodness the story ....

It doesn't get better

I'm willing to 'suspend disbelief' on a lot of things in Sci-Fi to set up the story. However, this story just gets worse and worse as it progresses.

I made it through a few chapters. It really doesn't get better. Silly characters, extra silly stupid bad guys, and then a silly super ship.

Weak installment

Pretty weak installment of the series. At times characters (and equipment) deviate from how they normally act. And of course mayhem and trouble soon follow. It just got really silly towards the end. I don't want to spoil anything but the story gets weaker and weaker as it develops.

The pacing was off. Author was in a hurry to move the story along and didnt really develop anything. Some contrived ways to obtain technology. And very contrived ways to make sure we knew how bad the bad guys are.

Shallow book with no soul

Sometimes multiple authors can bring a book to life. This book feels like a writing exercise with no reason to be published. All of the made up things sound like temporary names that they never got around to changing in editing. And every now and then they drop some irrelevant controversial point probably because they each had a share of checklist things to mention so they just dropped them randomly in the story.

Really?

Starts off ok - nice different start to the 'green recruit' story and then goes downhill from there. This is not a serious story, maybe its supposed to be a comedy? Not sure, but the stories and situations are improbable. Visiting a station and resolved a bomb threat/suicide situation and ends up getting to keep the stolen ship. Cool story... etc etc etc

Good military sci-fi

Good Military sci-fi. It was an easy listen with a very linear plot and no real surprises. But it was well written and engaging and avoided anything super stupid that sometimes plagues these type stories. The 'worlds' political story could use some work (Really, United Systems Alliance (USA) versus evil Space Muslims) but it is no worse than other major books that pick other 'popular' bad guys to beat up on (Evil space CEO's ring a bell?)

Really weak story

I don't recommend this book. It reads like someone banged out the book in an afternoon sitting in a coffee shop. Character interactions are ridiculous. Of course it was the kids that knew how to fly the ship because they played video games and it was the Role players and swap meet guys that are able to fix everything up. And the bad guys --- The concept of the book might have been interesting, refit a mothballed ship, if the bad guys weren't so comical.
