Historia
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Good Read
Revisado: 07-24-24
I've seen this book come up as a recommendation to read in the past but I mostly read non-fiction novels (love Appalachian stories) therefore I never bothered to read it. After President Trump chose JD for his running mate, I recognized the book's cover and decided to go ahead and listen to it. I couldn't stop listening, it was wonderfully narrated by JD himself and it made me feel like I know him. I have since watched the movie also but I didn't find it nearly as enjoyable as this book.

Woke Novel, I'll Pass On Lee's Future Books
Revisado: 07-09-24
This book kept me really engulfed in listening but I wasn't a fan of the ending or of the wokeness that was included. I would have gave it 4 stars if not for the author's woke inclusions.

Historia
Founded by the mysterious genius known as the Designer, the archipelago of Prospera lies hidden from the horrors of a deteriorating outside world. In this island paradise, Prospera’s lucky citizens enjoy long, fulfilling lives until the monitors embedded in their forearms, meant to measure their physical health and psychological well-being, fall below 10 percent. Then they retire themselves, embarking on a ferry ride to the island known as the Nursery, where their failing bodies are renewed, their memories are wiped clean, and they are readied to restart life afresh.

Disappointed
Revisado: 05-24-23
I loved The Passage saga, they are some of my favorite books ever, but this one not so much. I only finished it with hopes of it getting better, but it never did. Scott Brick didn't disappoint, he's one of my favorite narrators.

Historia
The wall just didn’t look right. Alex has been trying to cope. Life after his deployment had been rough. His ex-wife thought he needed to stop disappointing their daughter. She was right. He would try harder. With six hours before his little girl’s fourth birthday party, he saw the anomaly. One wall was too short. Plenty of time to tear out a panel and look behind it. He found a brick wall. His house wasn’t made of brick. Behind that was another just like the first. He still had time. When the second wall came down, Alex stood and stared at the shining doorway.

Not What I Expected
Revisado: 07-11-22
This author is new to me, and I will admit the synopsis of this book did not make me want to read this book, neither did most of the reviews I read prior to deciding to give the book a try. I decided to give it a try and I am now currently listening to book 3. I will admit the narrator is not my favorite and the main character, Alex was not very likeable in the very beginning, but Alex has since grown on me over the course of his adventure.
The time travel was the opposite of what I thought it was in the beginning, which has really piqued my interest as I love the post-apocalyptic genre. It is almost too farfetched in some respects but then something else will happen that makes the story more believable.
I do not understand why some reviewers say this is not a time travel story, as it very much is—Alex goes through a mysterious door and is transported to a MUCH different time in the future.
This series so far has been quite enjoyable, and I look forward to reading the remainder.

Revisado: 03-09-20
The narration was a little strange in cadence at times but the voices and story itself were wonderful. I've read several WWII based historical fiction novels in the past couple of months and this one was my favorite. I found the story line to be very easy to follow and though the story itself, unpredictable,

Paullina Simons's internationally best-selling blockbuster The Bronze Horseman told the heart-soaring tale of a young Russian woman's transcendent love affair with a Red Army soldier during the siege of Leningrad in the dark days of World War II. The epic story continues in Tatiana and Alexander - a novel of the enduring power of love and commitment against the devastating forces of war and the equally dangerous forces of keeping the peace.
