Historia
Stephen E. Ambrose draws from hundreds of interviews with US Army veterans and the brave Allied soldiers who fought alongside them to create this exceptional account of the day that shaped the twentieth century. D-Day is above all the epic story of men at the most demanding moment of their existence, when the horrors, complexities and triumphs of life are laid bare and courage and heroism come to the fore.

Great story - I loved the detail. The narration was boring. I would still recommend this audiobook because it's a fabulous telling of D-Day.

Historia
Drawing on previously unpublished eyewitness accounts, prizewinning historian Donald L. Miller has written what critics are calling one of the most powerful accounts of warfare ever published. Here are the horror and heroism of World War II in the words of the men who fought it, the journalists who covered it, and the civilians who were caught in its fury. Miller gives us an up-close, deeply personal view of a war that was more savagely fought - and whose outcome was in greater doubt - than one might imagine. This is the war that Americans on the home front would have read about had they had access to previously censored testimony.

Historia
As Russian forces closed in on Berlin and Hitler’s premiership drew to a close, many Nazi officials fled Germany. In this startling, meticulously researched account, acclaimed journalist Uki Goñi unravels the complex network that led them to Argentina. Relying on international support—in Scandinavia, Switzerland, and Italy—and the enthusiasm of the Vatican and President Juan Perón, Goñi shows how this ratline allowed Adolf Eichmann—the architect of the Final Solution—Josef Mengele, Eric Priebke, and many more, into the country.

My biggest problem with this is the narrator didn't bother to do any research on the names. There were so many mispronounced names that is was painful. Story is good.

Historia
Of the 6,600 paratroopers of the 101st 'Screaming Eagles' Airborne Division who parachuted into France in the early hours of 6 June 1944—D-Day—some 3,500 were listed as missing by midnight that same night. Yet it was only the beginning of their 'rendezvous with destiny.'

Just Ok
Revisado: 06-21-24
The narrator was terrible. He sounds like a guy they found at the hardware store and asked if he wanted to narrate a book. He butchered most of the names and places. There was little or no prep for this as far as the names go. Plus: his pronunciation of "Screaming Eagles" comes out like Screameen Geagles". If I didn't love every word written about the 101st I would have returned the book- but my respect for the subject matter convinced me to just endure the bad narration.
I have heard these stories recounted much better from other authors.

Historia
At last, here is a book that tells the full story of the turning point in World War II's Battle of the Bulge - the story of five crucial days in which small groups of American soldiers, some outnumbered 10 to 1, slowed the German advance and allowed the Belgian town of Bastogne to be reinforced. Alamo in the Ardennes provides a compelling, day-by-day account of this pivotal moment in America's greatest war.

I've only known this story as told by the 101st and 82nd airborne and not from the troops who took the initial attack and who held the Germans back long enough for the paratroopers to arrive. Very good book.

Thirty five concerts. Seventeen thousand motorcycle miles. Three months. One lifetime. In May 2015 the veteran Canadian rock trio Rush embarked on their 40th anniversary tour, R40. For the band and their fans, R40 was a celebration and, perhaps, a farewell. But for Neil Peart, each tour is more than just a string of concerts; it's an opportunity to explore backroads near and far on his BMW motorcycle. So if this was to be the last tour and the last great adventure, he decided it would have to be the best one, onstage and off.

I loved Neil's writing style and his sense of humor. You can tell he's well-read and very articulate, which makes sense considering he was the lyricist in the band. He's so missed. RIP.
