Are people really this stupid.
Revisado: 04-01-24
Right from the beginning I kept waiting for her to WTFU & take measures to protect herself. I doubt I'll be able to finish it because all I find myself doing is rolling my eyes because, surely, someone cannot be so stupid & naive. 🤷♀️

Historia
On a stormy Chicago night, renowned semiotician Dr. Evan Wilding and his brother, River, who’s back from an archaeological dig, reunite in a mystery. A package addressed to both of them contains a hand-drawn maze, an ancient Cretan coin, and a cryptic greeting: Let the game begin. The opening move is murder. In a downtown alley, a man has been found nearly cleaved in two, a symbol drawn on his forehead and a savage rip in his throat. Given the clues, Evan sees a parallel to a fearsome Greek myth. Which means his friend Detective Addie Bisset is on the trail of a legendary flesh-eating monster.

Excellent continuation of this series.
Revisado: 12-02-23
This has become one of my favorite series of books & I can't wait for each one to come out. I would love to see this series made into a movie or series of shows. This book is even better than the previous 2 books and kept my attention from the first page.

Might be the most depressing book I've ever read.
Revisado: 11-19-23
I found this book to be very depressing on multiple levels. Several threads in the storyline seemed to end all wrapped up with a bow prematurely, illogically & quite unsatisfyingly. At least one of the narrators voice was difficult (for me) to understand.

I don't read FICTION to listen to personal opinion
Revisado: 11-07-23
This story would have been more enjoyable without the author's personal expositions on "climate change", "covid19", and social ills. I read for relaxation & enjoyment. To the author: do you want to hear MY personal beliefs & opinions? Of course you don't. And I don't want to hear yours. Leave the politics out.

But Bonnie finds a less-than-warm welcome in Rowan MacGregor, the rugged local handyman.

Predictable story, awful narration
Revisado: 09-30-23
The narration (and awful accent) nearly made me quit this about 1/4 way through. The character Bonnie was ridiculous & silly with lots of inane behavior & dialog. I just couldn't like her as a person. This will make me steer away from this author in the future. It was the only time in recent memory that I was relieved when the book was finished.

Started out great, deteriorated into propaganda
Revisado: 09-25-23
This had the potential to be a strongly moving & emotional story. I like the base premise, but it was completely derailed for me when it turned into a PC propaganda piece for masks, social distancing, lockdowns, and the vaccine.

Struggled to get through it
Revisado: 08-29-23
I nearly quit multiple times because the narration was so awful. Childish, saccharine, sing-songy & ANNOYING. Also, there's the usual "heroine" yes/no yes/no BS. Finally finished it, but wished I'd passed it up.

Horrible Narration
Revisado: 05-08-23
I think I would have enjoyed this story much more with good narration. Unfortunately, my eyesight makes it difficult to actually read a book, but I wish I could have in this case. The narration was dull, flat, monotone & really ruined the flow of the story. Highly recommend this book be redone with professional narration.

Lewis doesn’t need the aggravation, just the money. The only requirements: run errands, be on call, and put up with a miserable old churl no one else in Buffalo can bear. After exchanging barbs, bickering, baiting, and pushing buttons, Chester hits Lewis with the big ask. Lewis can’t say no to a dying wish.

Historia
Growing up, Lisa Nikolidakis tried to make sense of her childhood, which was scarred by abuse, violence, and psychological terrors so extreme that her relationship with her father was cleaved beyond repair. Having finally been able to leave that relationship behind, surviving meant forgetting. For years, “I’m fine” was a lie Nikolidakis repeated. Then, on her twenty-seventh birthday, Nikolidakis’s father murdered his girlfriend and her daughter, and turned the gun on himself.

Not for everyone
Revisado: 09-18-22
if you tend to "take on" the tone of what you are reading psychically and/or spiritually, be cautious about reading this. While the story is told well, a lot of it is tragic & horrific. I was in a depression for 2 solid days while listening to this book. It also made me want to pray for this author who survived so much.
