United States, the 1930s, was a desperate time for everyone. Charlie’s childhood home and farm had been swept up in the dust that raged across the land. The drought seemed intent on making everything disappear; the lush farmlands, life savings, and even life itself. After Charlie’s father died and the farm was foreclosed upon, he and his mother, Pearl, packed what they could and tearfully left their home to search for a better life. They weren’t the only ones on the move. Many people had been forced to give up their homes and together, they shared the hardships of their journeys.
