I disliked the entire patched up work. I used to enjoy the author’s work. He got lost.

Could not finish. I’m not sure why I continued to listen as long as I did.

I almost never stop reading a book once I start it, however, this book was so bad I gave up. Too many scene/situational changes, character transitions and readers made it impossible for me to enjoy.

The book did not come close to living up to its prerelease hype. It’s discussion of the interactions of the Joint Chief of Staff with the Chinese general was shallow with limited references as the book quickly disintegrated into just another Trump hit piece.

Excellent rendition of history in and around China as experienced and impacted by generations of two non Chinese families.
The story is brought to life through an excellent performance by the reader. You don’t even realize he is there.

Disconnected, too many flips back in time, too many characters, too many end of book explanations needed and unneeded. Other than that, it was all I could do not to stop and give up in the middle of the book or earlier.

If it were not for one major mistake, “The Law of Innocence “ would have been excellent as are most of Michael Connelly’s books. The mistake was bad mouthing Donald Trump in the book. Not only was it distracting, it did a disservice to the overall work and filled no necessary purpose. Not to m

ention potentially pissing off half of the US voting population. My advice, stick with what you do well and do not become another negative in a country that already has too many on its plate.
Of course, you are entitled to your opinion, just don’t expect other people to unwittingly pay for it.

The child like use of terms like link, tag, NYPSD, illegals, etc. to replace common terms was a very poor attempt at something I cannot understand. For me, it made an otherwise not bad book almost impossible to listen too.

After some regrets after reading James Patterson and any co-author, I gave up. I’m not sure why I decided to listen to “The Summer House”, but was pleasantly surprised to feel I was back to reading Mr. Patterson’s solo work. I’ll try again with another co-authored novel soon.

This was one of least entertaining book I have listened in many years. There were too many explanations between
the characters to help the listener understand what was going on. The most annoying aspect of the book was the constant references to who had said what when, to a listener, they were unnecessary and distracting.
Other than that....
