Historia
Chief Inspector Armand Gamache of the Surêté du Québec and his team of investigators are called in to the scene of a suspicious death in a rural village south of Montreal. Jane Neal, a local fixture in the tiny hamlet of Three Pines, just north of the U.S. border, has been found dead in the woods. The locals are certain it’s a tragic hunting accident and nothing more, but Gamache smells something foul in these remote woods, and is soon certain that Jane Neal died at the hands of someone much more sinister than a careless bowhunter.

Layered and moody

A wonderful exploration of ordinary lives with detailed character development. Such a sense of place, with the village and weather themselves moving the narrative forward. Fantastic narrator.

Historia
Among the most celebrated and beloved novels of 2021, Anthony Doerr’s gorgeous third novel is a triumph of imagination and compassion, a soaring story about children on the cusp of adulthood in worlds in peril, who find resilience, hope—and a book. In Cloud Cuckoo Land, Doerr has created a magnificent tapestry of times and places that reflects our vast interconnectedness—with other species, with each other, with those who lived before us, and with those who will be here after we’re gone.

A tale that draws you in slowly
Revisado: 05-01-24
I am very glad I stuck with this past the first hour. The threads of so many storylines puzzled me at first, then I grew eager to hear the next installment. I think the story of Constant was the most intriguing, but Omeir and Anna were wonderful too. Seymour and Zeno were the saddest and yet...
So many resilient lives over the centuries...
A satisfying read.

not as gripping as other Tana French novels buy still excellent
Revisado: 04-24-24
I was glad to return to Ardnakelty and Cal, Tre, and Lena - each well drawn and multilayered personalities - a French specialty. The plot was slower moving than I thought necessary and when the dead body finally shows up it moved almost too quickly to conclusion. A wonderful dissection of the complicated motives of a small town.

Historia
Akbar Manzil was once a grand estate off the coast of South Africa. Nearly a century later, it stands in ruins: an isolated boardinghouse for eclectic misfits, seeking solely to disappear into the mansion’s dark corridors. Except for Sana. Unlike the others, she is curious and questioning and finds herself irresistibly drawn to the history of the mansion: To the eerie and forgotten East Wing, home to a clutter of broken and abandoned objects—and to the door at its end, locked for decades.

Evocative language, a languid, beautiful story

While this novel starts out slow, it becomes layered and engaging, drawing you in. A tragic story with many memorable characters.

brilliant!

This second book installment in the series starts a bit slow but is definitely worth sticking with! I just adore the characters, especially Bob Dan. the narrator is again fabulous and draws you into the English countryside perfectly. so much here to love. leaves me smiling comfortably. I assume BBC or some other program will adapt this and can't wait!

Historia
Cal Hooper thought a fixer-upper in a bucolic Irish village would be the perfect escape. After 25 years in the Chicago police force and a bruising divorce, he just wants to build a new life in a pretty spot with a good pub where nothing much happens. Evocative of the Irish countryside
Revisado: 08-28-22
this was not one of Tana French's best but her consistent gift of evoking scenery, smells, and emotion carried me through. The narrator stayed in character most of the time, his Irish accent breaking through the American twang only occasionally.
