Historia
When horror author Thad McAlister began his latest novel, a tale rooted in the witch trials of centuries past, the words flowed effortlessly. The story poured forth, filling page after page with the most frightening character ever to crawl from his imagination. It was his greatest work, one that would guarantee him a position among the legends of the craft.

Damn close to as good as a Stephen King novel!
Revisado: 09-06-15
Would you listen to Forsaken: Book One of the Shadow Cove Saga again? Why?
Maybe - would prefer listening to a different narrator though. The story and plot were fresh and kept me listening despite a few of the narrator's character voices I found annoying.
Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?
Yes - a few good plot twists and the way the excerpts from Thad's book tied into or explained the story happening to Thad and his family.
Which character – as performed by Christina Delaine – was your favorite?
The clickety-click of the fingernails was the best part of her narration - but I did not enjoy her as narrator.
Who was the most memorable character of Forsaken: Book One of the Shadow Cove Saga and why?
Clayton Stone - maybe because a lot of insight into his thoughts was provided as he faced the enigma of the seemingly innocent girl that didn't jive with everything happening that was associated with her.
Any additional comments?
I'm really looking forward to more books from the Shadow Cove saga, and hope they choose a different narrator.
But really, even if they don't - I'm still in!

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius". Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh. Melanie loves school. She loves learning about spelling and sums and the world outside the classroom and the children's cells. She tells her favorite teacher all the things she'll do when she grows up.

Not your typical boring zombie story
Revisado: 02-07-15
What made the experience of listening to The Girl with All the Gifts the most enjoyable?
Intelligent story line and characters.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Melanie of course - because of the internal struggle between her need to feed and her desire to do right. That's what makes horror/ monster stories interesting.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
.. and you thought the Paleo diet was tough...
Any additional comments?
I don't care for the popular zombie genre but this was a great story.

This is a great story, and paints a clear picture of Chinese culture during foot-binding days. Really enjoyed this view of the secluded lives of Chinese women and of the culture.

Good story, but fairly repetitive.

Story is pretty fascinating, and gives a good peek at the period -- but there are a lot of very repetitive lines - gets tedious occasionally.

Totally engrossing
Revisado: 09-22-08
The audible version of a real page-turner. Clever setup: fictitious publisher writes the prologue, talking about whether or not he should publish this story based on a "found manuscript" which is Gideon's autobiography.
The story addresses big philosophical questions and the variety of relationships in one man's life -- all a background for a fantasical tale.
I'm looking for more books by this author!

A few good plot twists
Revisado: 07-14-07
A quiet, thoughtful story that manages to have a few twists in the plot. If you like fast-paced stories this probably isn't for you, but I like both fast and slow-paced movies and books, and found this story captivating.

Narrators a mixed bag
Revisado: 07-14-07
Loved the first half, the title story. For all the rest of the stories they changed narrators - the second narrator's voice grated on my nerves and several times I almost just quit listening he annoyed me so much.

Good

Really liked the way Brown tied a lot of disparate historical events together into one theme. The reading was done well, and the plot twists and turns kept the story moving. I especially liked the way the author would have you change your mind about various characters as the story progressed. Good ending, too!

Can't stop listening!
Revisado: 12-30-05
Excellent retelling of the Dracula story; has a gothic feel about it though the story takes place in the mid-20th century. Having different actors read each character's part added a lot to the feel of the story. I'll listen to this one again and again.
