Historia
After more than twenty years away from the law, Joe Hennessy is forced back into the courtroom. Trying to save his vineyard after years of drought, Hennessy returns to practice in Charleston, South Carolina–the city he walked away from after the murder of his ten-year-old son. When one of South Carolina's most powerful men is charged with possessing stolen artwork, Hennessy steps forward to defend him. But as Hennessy digs into the evidence, as he navigates the truth, he finds that the criminal charges are only the start of their problems…

45 minutes of my life wasted
Revisado: 11-15-23
This was one of the most poorly written stories of ever attempted to read. I have no idea how the average user rating is so high. The writing is clumsy, and full of tired cliches. They should pay me for the time I wasted trying.

From a huge Grisham fan
Revisado: 11-15-23
I found this book randomly looking for new legal thrillers and have found a new favorite author. I thought the book was well written, supporting, humorous, and hard to put down. the narrator performance was also excellent. Can't wait until he writes his next book.

Historia
On his last combat deployment, Lt. Cmdr. James Reece's entire team was killed in an ambush that also claimed the lives of the aircrew sent in to rescue them. But when those dearest to him are murdered on the day of his homecoming, Reece discovers that this was not an act of war by a foreign enemy but a conspiracy that runs to the highest levels of government. Now, with no family and free from the military's command structure, Reece applies the lessons that he's learned in over a decade of constant warfare toward revenge.

underwhelming
Revisado: 06-15-23
I really wanted to like this book but I agree with other reviews that the political commentary was distracting. I honestly don't know how it got that many five-star reviews. The story was just okay. I've heard this narrator on other books and he was pretty good but I realized in those other books there were no female characters. His voice for female characters makes them all sound whiny, even the "tough" ones.

narrator ruined it
Revisado: 12-20-22
I have read every Demille novel and this one was ok... except for the narrator. His voice was not authentic or believable, and the kicker not a NY accent! I grew up on Long Island where the book is set and he pronounced all of the town names incorrectly. Very surprised no one caught it in editing. For example Yaphank, Cougue, Aquabogue all incorrect. was able to struggle through because the story was good but jeez.

A huge help.
Revisado: 05-31-19
this was a huge help in leasing the RP accent. I got more each time I practiced along. I also found it useful for the modern Irish accent the actress/ student had.
