Satisfying Ending
Revisado: 02-19-25
I was very happy with the ending and now I feel sad, as I had become friends with these characters over the course of the three books. Wool is still the best of the three, in my opinion, but this book is exciting and most story lines are brought to a satisfying conclusion. I felt frustrated at times — maybe too many miscommunications or non-communications between key characters (c’mon Donny!) Maybe a few too many “will they make it” moments that just got tiring. But still worth the read, and I’ll be thinking about this for a long time. Narration was wonderful. Gentle, but exciting, and I always knew when Juliette was speaking. Amazing how he does that!

Wow
Revisado: 01-09-25
I love the Mistborn series. This one was even better than the first, which took a while to get going, understandably. There was a lot to introduce in the first book but this one could take off at a rapid pace. Brilliant storylines.

Historia
For a thousand years the ash fell and no flowers bloomed. For a thousand years the Skaa slaved in misery and lived in fear. For a thousand years the Lord Ruler, the "Sliver of Infinity," reigned with absolute power and ultimate terror, divinely invincible. Then, when hope was so long lost that not even its memory remained, a terribly scarred, heart-broken half-Skaa rediscovered it in the depths of the Lord Ruler's most hellish prison.

Historia
An old friend's sister disappears without a trace. There's no sign of foul play, but she'd been acting very peculiarly. Meanwhile, Liz's cousin, Christie, comes to stay. She takes an immediate - and uncharacteristic - dislike to the local bookshop owner, Gina. Why does everyone put up with her awful behavior? Christie is convinced that Gina is manipulating everyone around her. Is she onto something dangerous or just pushing her new friends away? No one believes her suspicions until another friend goes missing late at night on the misty Fen marshes.

One of her best!
Revisado: 10-02-24
I fully enjoyed this book. I love the slight tangent away from Matt Ballard to others on the fen. Joy Ellis really gets deeper into fascinating folklore that she seamlessly weaves into her murder mysteries and brilliant character studies. Definitely one of my favorites from this author.

Historia
It’s the night shift worker who finds them. Huddled in a hospital store cupboard is elderly Edith Higgins. Knifed to death. Sitting behind her is Staff Nurse Lily Frampton, a scalpel clasped in her blood-soaked hand. No one can understand why this kind-hearted, dedicated nurse would brutally murder a frail patient she’s spent months caring for. That same day, mild-mannered schoolteacher Rod Black is found surrounded by the battered bodies of his pupils. Why would a well-respected teacher beat five schoolboys to death?

Great characters, original plot
Revisado: 07-13-24
Exciting storyline but with lots of time for character building. I enjoyed this book. Slight criticism: there are too many characters and it’s tough to keep track of everyone. But it doesn’t get in the way of understanding the main plot line. Love the originality

Beautifully written and devastatingly emotional. If you’ve read the first two, you’ll want to read this one, too. Funny, heartbreaking, tragic and uplifting all at once. I’ll always think about these books

Historia
In The Worst of You, just-wed architects Timo and Nia flee a murder scene, setting in motion a chain reaction of lies and betrayals that threaten to unravel everything they have built together. Twisted and propulsive, this thriller is told from the alternating perspectives of the couple and those close to them on Williwaw Island, each with their own motive to use the outcome of the murder case to their advantage. When a huge storm sweeps up the coast, trapping everyone on tiny Williwaw Island, it’s a race against time—and the elements — to stop the murderer from striking again.

Ok not great
Revisado: 05-19-24
The story kept stalling to the point that I felt like I was reading through thick mud. I kept feeling like I was missing information and wasn’t sure if it just hadn’t been presented yet, or if I had actually missed it. I kept waiting for some big reveals but nothing too exciting happened. I kept waiting for there to be more to Nia…and then there wasn’t. The narrator did a pretty good job but BOY can she NOT do an English accent. And I thought it was supposed to be a Welsh accent? Not even close. Ok for a free read, but I wouldn’t waste a credit on it.

Wanted to stop but couldn’t
Revisado: 05-11-24
I was pretty disturbed by this one and wanted to stop, but I also wanted to find out what happened, so I kept going. It was very well written, and the characters were well developed. It could get pretty dark and uncomfortable at times. Narrators were all great, especially Nicola Walker! But I couldn’t figure out why the characters kept switching voices…it wasn’t obvious to me who was talking sometimes. Otherwise, it’s a good listen but not really much fun.

Entertaining and worth your time
Revisado: 05-08-24
I enjoyed this book. It’s not great literature, but for what it is, it’s fun and entertaining. Maybe I’m dumb, but I didn’t expect the twists in the end, so that was fun. I only marked it down a star because the main character was pretty dense and frustrating, but I guess it works for the storyline…but I found it hard to deal with at times! I really liked the narrator, who has a pretty good range of voices so I always knew who was talking. She can’t do a Long Island accent at all, but who cares. I’d recommend for a fun read. Oh, and if you like stories tied up in a bow, skip the epilogue.

So repetitive and boring!!
Revisado: 05-02-24
I couldn’t get through it. I listened for hours and finally decided to skip to the end and that was fine. So many repeated feelings over and over. The narrator did a very good job, though. I would not waste a credit on it unless you want something to numb your brain
