Historia
It's easy to feel at home in Mitford. In these high, green hills, the air is pure, the village is charming, and the people are generally lovable. Yet Father Tim, the bachelor rector, wants something more. Enter a dog the size of a sofa who moves in and won't go away. Add an attractive neighbor who begins wearing a path through the hedge. Now, stir in a lovable but unloved boy, a mystifying jewel theft, and a secret that's 60 years old.

Historia
In the summer after graduating from college, Suleika Jaouad was preparing, as they say in commencement speeches, to enter “the real world”. She had fallen in love and moved to Paris to pursue her dream of becoming a war correspondent. The real world she found, however, would take her into a very different kind of conflict zone. It started with an itch - first on her feet, then up her legs, like a thousand invisible mosquito bites. Then a trip to the doctor and, a few weeks shy of her 23rd birthday, a diagnosis: leukemia, with a 35 percent chance of survival.

A true story of the trial of a cancer survivor!
Revisado: 03-05-22
I t was very long. Her life with cancer very hard. I did finish it and loved her cross country trip and the people she met.
Because I'm retired and I'm alone much of the time I had time to finished this book. I have an Aunt recovering from cancer surgery and is undergoing chemo for the coming year. She is strong at 86 and has an amazing attitude and will to keep going.
She is my hero! I think that's why I wanted to finish reading this book!
It will be remembered fondly.

IT ,was ok,. after I got used to her style and narration.
Amost All characters were very nice.
No graphic sexual details.
Nice descriptions of scenery, sun sets
and relationships.
I loved that "sunsets pull down the night." her discription of bird calls, and love of baking and that she liked to make people feel better and happy!

Amazing detailed discription of India.
Revisado: 12-15-21
I loved it! The traditions, religions, Hindus and Muslims lived in harmony.
How the houses were built in family compounds with court yards. This family had very royal ancestors. This family was rich enough for the whole family to travel in a large caravan to the mountains in the summer to live.
Lots of emphasis on cooking and kinds of food and Indian spices and fruits and vegetables. The meat was mainly goat and goat cheese and milk.
History of Government and leaders including Gandi his leading and that he was shot and killed. Which I remember,
and have read about his life and death.
The children and the aurhor at young age of 8 seemed to have a lot of freedom to roam to the river to swim with their friends. At one point they crossed the river to buy watermelon from a farmer on the other side.
I listened to this on Audible! I wish that I had made a notations out what the chapters were about.
I felt that it was beautifully writen.
Except To me the beging about the ancestors was too long! I had to skip a lot of chapters. I knew I wouldn't remember any of that!
I don't know much about my own family tree.
