Historia
Chrissie Hynde, the songwriter and front woman of The Pretenders in its various incarnations, has for 35 years been one of the most admired and adored and imitated figures in rock. This long-awaited memoir tells her life story in full and utterly fascinating detail, from her all-American Ohio '50s childhood to her classic baby-boomer seduction by the rock of the '60s to her sojourn in the crucible of punk that was '70s London to her instant emergence with her band, The Pretenders, in 1980 into stardom as a frontwoman and songwriter.

As someone from northeastern Ohio who is a few years younger, the geographic references and remembrances were familiar and often humorous. Chrissy's literary voice was like listening to the people I have interacted with my whole life. I enjoyed listening to this story with all its ranges of emotions very much. Thanks for telling it.

Love the direction these two characters are heading. Really enjoyed the incorporation of current events, and the way the story used unsettled times to it's advantage. Keep this new dynamic duo working to save the world.

No one writes a story like Pete Dexter and the narrator brought it to life. I couldn't have used the listening time any better. Liked the book much better than the movie although that version wasn't a waste of time either.

A dark story about evil in the back country roads.
Revisado: 09-18-20
The central message of this story seems to be that hopelessness morphs into evil. Not a tale for the squeamish, but one that keeps your attention, and gets you rooting for the protagonist. If you are adverse to darkness avoid this one, otherwise a tough story well told.

Historia
Jim McCloskey was at a midlife crossroads when he met the man who would change his life. A former management consultant, McCloskey had grown disenchanted with the business world; he enrolled at Princeton Theological Seminary at the age of 37. His first assignment, in 1980, was as a chaplain at Trenton State Prison. Among the inmates was Jorge de los Santos, a heroin addict who'd been convicted of murder years earlier. He swore to McCloskey that he was innocent - and, over time, McCloskey came to believe him.

Revisado: 08-05-20
A nice mixture of faith and the dirty work of dealing with real world messes. A genuine indictment of a system that has left the truth behind and functions on tradition and the quest to win at all costs. This book is a good read for anyone who has experienced the costs and victories of living with a calling. Most people know that the system is flawed, but the author strips those flaws down and lays them out for viewing. I am glad I listened to this book.

Veteran reporter Jack McEvoy has taken down killers before, but when a woman he had a one-night stand with is murdered in a particularly brutal way, McEvoy realizes he might be facing a criminal mind unlike any he's ever encountered. Jack investigates - against the warnings of the police and his own editor - and makes a shocking discovery that connects the crime to other mysterious deaths across the country. Undetected by law enforcement, a vicious killer has been hunting women, using genetic data to select and stalk his targets.

In the summer of 1937, Amelia Earhart is the most famous woman in the world - a record-breaking pilot, a best-selling author, and a modern woman shattering the glass ceiling in the early days of aviation. And then she vanishes. In Tampa, Florida, 15-year-old Lizzie Friedlander spends her afternoons glued to her father’s radio, tapping into the enormity of a world she longs to travel. Thank you JT for extreme honesty and for sharing hard earned wisdom. One of the best stories of a favorite musician I have ever encountered. I especially appreciated the mixture of story and song. Well worth the hour and a half of precious life.
