Dune Messiah was published a year after I was born. I am astonished by the world Frank Herbert describes and explores. His words are quite mesmerizing and they transport me to a far off place with each book I listen to in the series.

Arthur C. Clarke had such an incredible imagination and grasp of scientific theory and his skill with brevity is highly refined. He always gives just the right amount of detail to describe a scene. My greatest satisfaction in this story is with the power, purpose and fallibility of the Monolith. Exploring the new environment in our solar system is a wonderful adventure and the spectacle of Mt. Zeus is hard to match. Storytelling at its best. I can't wait to engage the final odyssey.

Simply a fantastic story with all the anatomy of the Greek tragedies. Frank Herbert is a superb storyteller and has a singular talent for conveying the sharpest detail of the physical and moreso of the psychological. A hero aware of his greatness and his flaws at the same time. The undeniable immensity of time itself and ethereal quality of the metaphysical both weaved together to explore the power of Prescience! This is Dune!

I've heard much about the writings of Arthur C. Clarke and now I know why. What an imagination! If I didn't know better, I would say Sir Arthur had been aboard Rama itself, a real one. The scale of Rama is nothing less than titanic! I don't feel that the word does it justice. Like Cmdr. Norton, we work with what we have. The absolute mystery of the Raman technology and its purpose is what drives this story. The intuition of the crew is enjoyable as well. The transformation that occurs near the conclusion is perfectly timed. This story is a standard-bearer for science fiction, and rightly so.

I loved this story even though I saw the film first. The book description of entering the Monolith and the subsequent journey beyond was so gripping! I think that this story will always rank in my personal Top 10 sci-fi stories.
