Historia
Adam Binder has lost what matters most to him. Having finally learned the true identity of the warlock preying on his family, what was supposed to be a final confrontation with the fiend instead became a trap that sent Adam’s beloved Vicente into the realm of the dead, where none living are meant to be. Bound by debt, oath, and love, Adam blazes his own trail into the underworld to get Vicente back, and to end the threat of the warlock once and for all. But the road to hell is paved with far more than good intentions.

Life, Death, and found family
Revisado: 05-01-23
I didn’t expect this series to take hold of me like it did. The magic system is deep but in a way that reminds the reader that humans (and the audience) are the lowest part of the totem pole here and doesn’t need to explain it’s deeper self. Which is really neat and hard to pull off. I wanted more emotional revelation with the fatherly scenes but I understand their means and method here and accept them as is! Great book all in all. Would read again.

Historia
Returning to Guthrie, Oklahoma, for the funeral of his mysterious and beloved aunt, Sue, Adam Binder once again finds himself in the path of deadly magic when a dark druid begins to prey on members of Adam’s family. It all seems linked to the death of Adam’s father many years ago - a man who may have somehow survived as a warlock. Watched by the police, separated from the man who may be the love of his life, compelled to seek the truth about his connection to the druid, Adam learns more about his family and its troubled history than he ever bargained for.

Generational Magic and Trauma
Revisado: 05-01-23
The way the writer not only dives into the complexities of generational trauma but also with the culture of small town mentality is amazing in this. I genuinely love that a lot of things in play are intentionally written with those two things at the heart of it.

Historia
Adam Binder has the Sight. It’s a power that runs in his bloodline: the ability to see beyond this world and into another, a realm of magic populated by elves, gnomes, and spirits of every kind. Years after his brother Bobby had him committed to a psych ward, Adam is ready to come to grips with who he is, to live his life on his terms, to find love, and maybe even use his magic to do some good. Hoping to track down his missing father, Adam follows a trail of cursed artifacts to Denver, only to discover that an ancient and horrifying spirit has taken possession of Bobby’s wife.

Really loved the magic system and character development through this whole series. Binged the whole thing in a weekend.

Historia
Heloise and her allies are marching on the Imperial Capital. The villagers, the Kipti, and the Red Lords are united only in their loyalty to Heloise, though dissenting voices are many and they are loud. The unstable alliance faces internal conflicts and external strife, yet they’re united in their common goal. But when the first of the devils start pouring through a rent in the veil between worlds, Heloise must strike a bargain with an unlikely ally, or doom her people to death and her world to ruin.

Fantastic world building and conclusion
Revisado: 01-06-20
Myke does a fantastic job through this whole series of building a world that is both grim in nature and beautiful in execution. As the book (and series) marches towards the finale the veils of the world are parted and hard truths are revealed -- and hard truths they truly are (don't get to attached to any one character). I genuinely recommend this to anyone looking to satisfy new takes on magic, religion in a fantasy setting and the ardent use of military life that are led to the wayside in most modern takes of the genre.

Historia
The Queen of Crows, book two of the Sacred Throne trilogy, continues the epic story of Heloise as she continues her journey from obscurity to greatness. Despite the crippling injuries she's received, Heloise stands tall against overwhelming odds with the help of alchemically-empowered armor and an unbreakable spirit. Heloise has grown from a shell-shocked girl into a figure of revolution, and as she draws in allies, her cause grows ever stronger. The time for hiding underground is over. Heloise must face the tyrannical Order and lay siege to the Imperial Palace itself.

F@#$ing Fantastic.
Revisado: 10-08-18
From the first moment of the book you are thrown into Cole's extensive knowledge and research of feudal societies and warfare. Then couple his ability to set a scene full of characters with Barall's ability to give life to all of those characters and you have the fastest 8 hours of your life. He takes a moment and spins it into a chapter, making each suspenseful breath last an hour.
I love books where you can see the writers passions and interests intertwined into the narrative. 10/10 and would/will read it again.
