Historia
The life of a highly sensitive person (HSP) is atypical, colorful, stimulating, painful, beautiful, and confusing all at the same time. Sometimes, your sensitivity might be beneficial, other times…extremely overwhelming. Why do you feel SO much? Why does the world feel as though it crashes onto you like a tidal wave, while others seem to experience it as the gentle ripples of a pond?Highly Sensitive is a comprehensive guide to navigating life for those who have it turned on to the max.

Know Thy Self, You May Belong To A Rare Kind
Revisado: 09-11-22
Knowing thyself is said to be the highest form of knowledge. This book helped me explore my inner self. It paves the way for an introspection to know oneself even better. The author gave a walk through the psyche of highly sensitive people. In doing so, I was able to make a self-assessment whether I belong to this rare class. And whether or not I do, it was able to show me the way on how to deal with this type of personality. Good thing two perspectives were assumed by Linda in sharing the characteristics of highly sensitive individuals. The discussions were enough to understand the mindset and behavior associated with this class of people.

Historia
Do you feel like you need something, all the time? Does your brain run on stimulation, quick satisfaction, and immediate gratification? You’re most likely one of many experiencing an issue that has slowly wrapped its hands around the throat of modern society at large—and that is dopamine addiction. In a world where a laugh and a cry are both a click away at any given moment, we’ve grown accustomed to getting what we want, right when we want it.The effect that repeated instant gratification has on brain chemistry is significant, and harmful.

Learn the Why and Deal with the How

Learn Why You Do It and How You Can Control It
So this fairly explains why you can get stuck on your phone all day long. This book is an interesting read for someone who would like to understand the reason behind one’s behavior whether about getting glued to a mobile phone or a gaming chair. It also sheds light on the science behind the motivation of wanting more due to some rewarding experience. If you have not encountered the word, it is dopamine, a hormone that gives you that bliss! And you need not confront this feeling at your own risk with some handy words of wisdom from Linda Hill, no less. My takeaway is that you should always keep things in moderation. Now, a regular dose of dopamine detox would not hurt. I understand that this is easier said than done so another content on some strategies to control one's addictive habits may be useful.

Let’s address the facts. You’ve spent far too long catering and bending to the desires of others. So much so that being assertive and standing up for yourself feels unnatural, difficult, or even impossible at times. There is a very real difference between being kind and considerate, and disregarding your own priorities for the sake of others—and you’re starting to realize it. You are your own person! Time to start acting like it. Be the change that needs to happen in your life and begin setting effective, firm boundaries. If you don’t, no one ever will.

Came for the topic, stayed for the classic
Revisado: 09-02-22
Surely, I came for the topic, and I stayed for the classic examples especially those involving assertiveness– there is a wealth of them in the book. My first impression was that I will be reading about respecting personal space. But then, the scope was more than that. It was even deeper than what I have expected. The boundaries discussed cover all aspects involving relationships. Perhaps this book could be a prelude to a detailed discussion of each of the several dimensions of boundaries like physical, sexual, emotional, spiritual, financial, time, and others. The complexity of each individual translates to the many aspects of boundaries in a relationship. My takeaway is that I should start to set boundaries, other than personal space, maybe one dimension at a time.
