Solid Book from Ed Mylett
Revisado: 05-29-23
If you have watched Ed's social media posts, you know he is a smart guy with lots of passion. I was super excited to get his book and see what his passion focused around one topic would be like. The book is solid. There are many thought provoking statements and ideas here. With books centered around one concept sometimes the worry is you get the whole book in the first 10 pages and the rest can feel redundant. I don't think this happened with this book. Each chapter is a meal to chew on. That being said, I kind of wanted more. I love Ed's style and every time I see him on YouTube I enjoy it, and I was hoping to be even more wowed. For me it didn't happen until the last chapter. When he digs into why he does what he does and the story about his father. This was powerful. I would have led with that chapter. I am writing some books as well in the personal development space and this really taught me a lesson, that we think we are teaching people all of this smart stuff but the most powerful things are the personal real things we share about how these principles changed our lives. The lessons alone are only so compelling, the experience behind them is the real story. The power of one more is easy to understand, but you have to integrate it into your daily lives. That is when the principle gets powerful. Solid book with tons of value. Definitely worth the read.

Historia
At its essence, marketing today is about answering one question: “How can we be heard?” How can we rise above the din of infinite options to create sustainable meaning with an audience or group of customers? Following the old rules of digital engagement is not enough...not nearly enough. Even being "great" is insufficient in the face of overwhelming competition redefining the limits of excellence every day.

Another Great Book From Mark!
Revisado: 09-20-22
I always enjoy Mark's storytelling and sense of humor. He has great insights and this is a topic that is very important for people trying to breakthrough and succeed.
Some people are looking for the big ideas, but I have found success is often hampered by the details we didn't understand or execute on. I love that Mark helps reveal the construct of those elements that might be keeping you from reaching fullest potential.
You can clearly see the areas that you may be missing from his map for success. Another great set of observations and well worth the read.

Gleanable Value Classic Tim Ferriss
Revisado: 03-08-21
I'm a fan of Tim Ferriss. He cuts to things that matter and takes an outsider blank slate scientific approach to hacking results. I was curious how he would apply this to fitness and diet.
Going in I knew he might do things I would not as far as things outside the norm or even risky. this overall was well within normal. The diet was reasonable and I am testing it. The workouts make sense based on working in a gym and years of training and studying various approaches. I knew doing the minimum to stimulate growth was key and he made me rethink what going to failure meant.
I wasn't interested in the chapters on sex and felt it was a departure from the key focus of the book. I skipped those chapters. I also felt the daily meals could have and should have been more detailed since it is a key part. I will go back and listen again to get the game plan. Lots of great micro and macro advice. I don't know if the collection of chapters gave me a clear feeling of the plan but it was interesting material.
I would have preferred to have the author read this as he is such a personality.

With Give and Take, Adam Grant not only introduced a landmark new paradigm for success but also established himself as one of his generation’s most compelling and provocative thought leaders. In Originals he again addresses the challenge of improving the world, but now from the perspective of becoming original: choosing to champion novel ideas and values that go against the grain, battle conformity, and buck outdated traditions. How can we originate new ideas, policies, and practices without risking it all?

Solid Story/Case Study Based Book
Revisado: 03-04-18
If you like Malcomb Gladwell type books you will like this book. Many good takeaways in the case studies. I did feel they could have been tied to the concept a little more as some stories dove so deep you may forget the key point being illustrated. That being said I thought it was very good and some great observations to be made from this book.

Historia
Explore the power of the underdog in Malcolm Gladwell's dazzling examination of success, motivation, and the role of adversity in shaping our lives, from the best-selling author of The Bomber Mafia. Three thousand years ago on a battlefield in ancient Palestine, a shepherd boy felled a mighty warrior with nothing more than a stone and a sling, and ever since then the names of David and Goliath have stood for battles between underdogs and giants. David's victory was improbable and miraculous. He shouldn't have won. Or should he have?

A captivating story of power dynamics.
Revisado: 08-13-17
Gladwell is a favorite author of mine and never disappoints. His ability to tell a story and tie in varied points into a whole is exceptional. Though there were a few conclusions I would challenge, it is also the thought provocation that makes him an excellent writer and analyst. Another great read from Gladwell.

Great Science & Research Backed Socialscience Book
Revisado: 07-25-17
If you like social science, sales, and books on why people make decisions, you will like this book. Based on intriguing research (some dated but still relevant), this book is well put together. Reminds me of a cross between Malcomb Gladwell, Daniel Pink, and Roger Dooley (some of my favorite authors). Though the research is older it totally applies to social media and the digital world today. This is not a how to book but provides understanding in how people make decisions and some tactics that can produce outcomes in a way you may not realize as a consumer and a marketer. It also is a great study on critical thinking. I recommend it

Revisado: 05-31-17
This was a great read from Mark Schaefer. The book was a great blend of conceptual and tactical information delivered in an easy to follow and listen format. I do marketing and create content for a living and I found a lot of value in each section. This is well worth the read if you want to understand both content marketing as well as how to grow your audience or if you want some inspiration to take your efforts to a new level.

Great conceptual book but wordy in the execution.
Revisado: 04-16-15
I liked this book overall but it didn't keep me on the edge of my seat. The narration was bland and monotonous. I liked the case studies but the conclusions seemed mechanical. Since the concept was strong I still ejoyed the book but it felt long to me.

A groundswell is sweeping through your customers. Right now, they are writing about your products on blogs and recutting your commercials on YouTube. They're defining you on Wikipedia and ganging up on you in social networking sites like Facebook. These are all elements of a social phenomenon - the groundswell - that has created a permanent shift in the way the world works. Most companies see it as a threat. It's time to see it an opportunity.
