Money and time well spent
Revisado: 02-22-24
Gates has the receipts, and his assessments and accounts demonstrate it. If your objective is to be a well-informed and thoughtful citizen this is one of the books you want on your shelf. This is a must have history, perspective, and analysis.
And the performance (not incidentally) is probably the best I’ve heard - makes it easy to keep listening.

Historia
We live in the age of disinformation - of organized deception. Spy agencies pour vast resources into hacking, leaking, and forging data, often with the goal of weakening the very foundation of liberal democracy: trust in facts. Thomas Rid, a renowned expert on technology and national security, was one of the first to sound the alarm, even before the 2016 election. But this is not new. The story of modern disinformation begins with the clash between communism and capitalism after the Russian Revolution.

Valuable and worthwhile listen. Information and context to help understand what is happening to the US. The MAGA right appears to be a further development and application of these methods and lessons.

A deep dive into a successful mind
Revisado: 04-15-23
Like reading a biography, one hopes to gain some insight into the how and why an individual has had the life he has. Unlike a biography, this is a contemporaneous and living work in progress. Dalio has the results that lend credence to his point of view, and the integration of all these factors - macro analysis - is unusual, engaging, and very worthwhile.

Historia
At the dawn of World War I, a young academic named John Maynard Keynes hastily folded his long legs into the sidecar of his brother-in-law’s motorcycle for an odd, frantic journey that would change the course of history. Swept away from his placid home at Cambridge University by the currents of the conflict, Keynes found himself thrust into the halls of European treasuries to arrange emergency loans and packed off to America to negotiate the terms of economic combat.

Historia
The longtime Republican strategist and number one New York Times best-selling author of Everything Trump Touches Dies is back with a guidebook for beating Trump’s tricks, traps, and Twitter feed in 2020. Donald Trump is exactly the disaster we feared for America. Hated by a majority of Americans, Trump’s administration is rocked by daily scandals, and he’s embarrassed us at home and abroad. Trump can’t win in 2020, right? Wrong. As 2016 proved, Trump can’t win, but the Democrats can sure as hell lose.

Could have been @ 1/3rd as long.
Revisado: 07-10-20
Rick Wilson’s thinking tracks almost perfectly with my own so I can fully endorse the content. It also confirms a couple of things that I have surmised watching he and his colleagues over the decades from the other side of the trenches.
Wilson is a highly accomplished political communicator who knows how to segment an audience. The book is intended for the uninitiated, a general reader, of a center-left bent.
It doesn’t deliver on its promise to be a handbook or technical manual, unfortunately, and people with experience around campaigns and politics will find little here that is revelatory.
The other short coming - which is a little difficult to understand given how capable Wilson is - is that the book could have delivered the substance, and I think done so more effectively, if it had been seriously edited down.
That said, if you want an accessible introduction to electioneering, particularly with respect to this election, this is worth your while. You’ll also get a peek at the narrative that the erstwhile GOP establishment is spinning for itself and its legacy.
