Historia
Stephen King's epic fantasy series, The Dark Tower, is being made into a major movie starring Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey. Due in cinemas February 17, 2017 USA. For listeners new to The Dark Tower, The Wind Through the Keyhole is a stand-alone novel, and a wonderful introduction to the series. It is a story within a story, which features both the younger and older gunslinger Roland on his quest to find the Dark Tower.

Not bad dark tower filler.
Revisado: 09-05-17
Story isn't bad. Had a filler feel with no real substance to the main story. The performance (Stephen King himself) is pretty terrible. He is very flat without voice work at all.

Historia
Zack Lightman has never much cared for reality. He vastly prefers the countless science-fiction movies, books, and videogames he's spent his life consuming. And too often, he catches himself wishing that some fantastic, impossible, world-altering event could arrive to whisk him off on a grand spacefaring adventure.

Disappointing, poor follow up to Ready Player one.
Revisado: 05-19-16
Would you try another book from Ernest Cline and/or Wil Wheaton?
After this effort, I would be reluctant to listen to another Ernest Cline. Ready player One was so good, but Armada is a young adult book at best.
I like Wil Wheaton's narration a lot, Red Shirts was a great listen.
Would you be willing to try another one of Wil Wheaton’s performances?
Probably, I think I may have listened to too many of his narrations. The range of emotions he can project is a bit limited.
You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
At least he had the decency to point out the movies and books he was ripping off (Enders Game, 2001 etc)
Any additional comments?
A shame after such a strong entry with Ready Player One.
If this was his first novel, I think he would have disappeared, barely noticed.

Historia
In 1989, the Berlin Wall fell; shortly afterwards the two Germanies reunited, and East Germany ceased to exist. Anna Funder tells extraordinary tales from the underbelly of the former East Germany. In a country where the headquarters of the secret police could become a museum literally overnight, and one in 50 East Germans were informing on their fellow citizens, there are thousands of captivating stories.

Good details, too much author's emotions.

Very interesting piece of history.
The author spent too much time writing her feelings into the book. This book is more about her feels than a history piece.
The narration was OK, but the terrible attempts at various voices was distracting.

Historia
Considered one of the great dystopian novels - alongside Anthony Burgess's A Clockwork Orange and Aldous Huxley's A Brave New World - Ira Levin's frightening glimpse into the future continues to fascinate listeners even 40 years after publication. The story is set in a seemingly perfect global society. Uniformity is the defining feature; there is only one language and all ethnic groups have been eugenically merged into one race called "The Family".

It's a shame, the story is good, if a bit dated.

Historia
Jen Mann doesn't have a filter, which sometimes gets her in trouble with her neighbors, her fellow PTA moms, and that one woman who tried to sell her sex toys at a home shopping party. Known for her hilariously acerbic observations on her blog People I Want to Punch in the Throat, Mann now brings her sharp wit to bear on suburban life, marriage, and motherhood in this laugh-out-loud collection of essays.

BORING and not funny
Revisado: 01-12-15
What disappointed you about People I Want to Punch in the Throat?
I assume that this book is strictly for fans of her blog.
Having never read the blog I can only hope she is funnier there.
I fell for the publishers blurb. Don't do the same, the anecdotes are very boring and go nowhere funny or pithy.
Just dull.

"A religious fundamentalist, a political operative, a primitive sermonizer, and an accomplice of worldly secular powers. Her mission has always been of this kind. The irony is that she has never been able to induce anybody to believe her. It is past time that she was duly honored and taken at her word." Among his many books, perhaps none have sparked more outrage than The Missionary Position, Christopher Hitchens's meticulous study of the life and deeds of Mother Teresa.

Good narration of a book that blew my exCatholic mind. I was indoctrinated with the Mother Theresa cult as a kid, wish I had of known all this then.

Historia
In 1886, a mysterious travelling circus becomes an international sensation. Open only at night, constructed entirely in black and white, Le Cirque des Rêves delights all who wander its circular paths and warm themselves at its bonfire. Although there are acrobats, fortune-tellers and contortionists, the Circus of Dreams is no conventional spectacle. Some tents contain clouds, some ice.

All style, no substance. Hours of blah, blah, blah
Revisado: 07-13-12
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
The narrator (Jim Dale) seems to have the perfect voice for this novel.
Until he tries to do the various accents and female voices. His accents are terrible and his female voices sound like cross dressing lumberjacks. Distracting to say the least.
The story itself is boring and very slow. It's nothing but tone setting and creating images, the plot is almost non exsistant and secondary.
What could Erin Morgenstern have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Plot first, THEN atmosphere.
Would you be willing to try another one of Jim Dale’s performances?
No. His reading is very good but his character voices and attempts at accents are distracting and embarrassing.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Night Circus?
I never listen to abridged versions, no matter how many filler chapters there are. If you deleted the droning tone setting scenes from this book it would be at least 50% shorter.
Any additional comments?
Strictly for flakes. The blurb for this book is very deceptive, almost nothing happens.
