Historia
When a fragile peace breaks down and promptly devolves into a rapidly escalating shooting war between Pakistan and India, the U.S. must intervene. With only hours remaining before the conflict reaches a deadly point of no return, the White House must find a way to shut it down immediately or risk the likelihood of a new global war. A radical cleric has become the democratically elected president of Pakistan and uses a brutal incident in the Kashmir region as an opportunity to ignite war with India. The highly lethal conventional war spins out of control when Pakistan initiates a nuclear attack.

Maybe even better than the first one!
Revisado: 12-27-11
Great follow up to the first book, READ THE FIRST BOOK FIRST. One NOTE TO THE AUTHOR, guns do NOT have NOZZLES!! I suspect this is an editorial mess up, they have barrels, and muzzles but NOT nozzles. The editor uses this word exclusivley throught both Andreas books and its drivin me NUTSO! Of course our hero kills all the bad guys and sits and stews about the injustice of the world and woe is me crap. Please, stop with the tortured warrior stuff, nobobdy buys it and if they hated it so much, THEY'D QUIT!

Historia
A major North American hydroelectric dam is blown up and the largest off-shore oil field in this hemisphere is destroyed in a brutal, coordinated terrorist attack. But there was one factor that the terrorists didn't take into account when they struck the Capitana platform off the coast of Colombia—slaughtering much of the crew and blowing up the platform—and that was the Capitana crew chief Dewey Andreas. Dewey, former Army Ranger and Delta, survives the attack, rescuing as many of his men as possible. But the battle has just begun.

EXCELLENT in many ways
Revisado: 12-27-11
Althought the main character is somewhat of a mix betwen Jack Bauer and Mitch Rapp he's still fairly believable. One NOTE TO THE AUTHOR, guns do NOT have NOZZLES!! I suspect this is an editorial mess up, they have barrels, and muzzles but NOT nozzles. The editor uses this word exclusivley throught both Andreas books and its drivin me NUTSO! I love the hard core action, pretty good plot twists and the no holds barred description of muslamic terrorists and fanatics. A little cartoonish in the dialogue etc. as is to be expected and apparently Delta Force guys are super human,...allegedly. Great use of his Gerber knife, love it!

Historia
In a locked Honolulu office building, three men are found dead with no sign of struggle except for the ultrafine, razor-sharp cuts covering their bodies. The only clue left behind is a tiny bladed robot, nearly invisible to the human eye. In the lush forests of Oahu, groundbreaking technology has ushered in a revolutionary era of biological prospecting. Trillions of microorganisms, tens of thousands of bacteria species, are being discovered; they are feeding a search for priceless drugs and applications on a scale beyond anything previously imagined.

NOT nearly as bad as others report
Revisado: 12-16-11
I have listened to ALL of crichton's books and many from preston. No, its not as great as say Prey, or his masterwork State of Fear, BUT its better than some others. Some sections and scenes are far fetched regardless of the technology. Example, at a tiny state the people and objects mass is reduced to the point where a breeze can blow them away but other natural and man made effects are substantially less so. The characters are a little light weight (no pun intended), true enough. I just hope that this is the LAST "crichton" book, so that he doesn't end up like the dead robert ludlum

As ususal huston does a good job with the aerospace type tech thriller. SOME of the characters are a bit unbelievable but good overall. Love the idea of givin it to all them islamic terrorists. Sort of like the fun you get during a 24 episode when jack bauer does some good torture. Unbelievable sequence near the ending climax. Having been a Marine sniper I know thats possible, probable and IMPOSSIBLE, and I don't mean lucky, but impossible. Knowing how the blue angels pick their aviators, at least in general, unlikely this guy would have been picked. Also, they are a VERY tight group and I suspect would be resentful of the enourmous outside interference they get. But over all, a great listen I would reccomend to the military/terrorist thriller crowd.

good but not great
Revisado: 01-18-11
This book definately had some potential. I find the johansen books sometimes have a little bit of the bodice ripper type under tones. They are written by a woman and I suspect for a more female audience. Pretty good suspence and action. As always I DONT CARE about the narraration very much. A good narrator is fine but the bad ones don't get in my way. There was definately some boris and natasha type accents and as usual sometimes they confused between seargent schultz and generic russian. Odd that a woman knows SO much about submarine engineering.

NOT disrespectful to Carlos Hatchcock
Revisado: 12-30-10
First before the review, having been an 8541 for many years in the 80s, and having had Hatchcock as a guest instructor, I can say that this book is NOT disrespectful to him, yes in the beginning he is shown as a patsy etc. BUT read/listen to the whole book!
The book is sort of a conspiracy type plot and yes the characters from hunter's older books are probably too old to do what they do in this book, but its not bad. Yes hunter does over detail the weapons etc. but he ALWAYS does that so its not a surprise. Curious to see how the newer characters are developed in future books as replacements for Swagger/Memphis.
Regarding the ANTI LIBERAL bias, of course! Most of the leftists killed in the book got what was coming to them, better late than never I guess. Hunter is pro second ammendment etc. If libs dont like the "bias" maybe they shouldnt read the book but read the constitution instead.

good political spy thriller
Revisado: 12-08-10
It said copyright 2003 so this SHOULD have been under post 9/11 thought and world events. However many terrorist groups such as the IRA, etc. are mentioned often. Many of these groups, agencies etc. have been out of business or disbanded or remade since the 90s! This book WAS NOT completely written post 9/11 and I normally NEVER read the ones from the 80s or 90s, because so much has changed. Surveillance technology etc. also seems dated as do our enemies. The story is fine as is the narrator.

not as good as the Kuzneski books
Revisado: 12-08-10
I do get a bit tired of the Payne as lone ranger and Jones as Tonto routine. Also, spartan armor under NO circumstances is bullet proof, especially at close range. Stupid. Also, as usual no one has night vision etc. Hell im not a secret spy and i have a cheapo night vision scope. Fairly accurate portrayal but the idea of the Spartans still existing in modern day Greece and so forth is a bit loony. Probably my last Kuzneski book, at least for now, and okay book and the writers comments at the beginning and end are always interesting in any book. Always interested in the "making of" type shows and this is fun. Good general story and narration.

The main spy is an iranian american that has never lived in iran yet totally blends in at all levels of culture. Sort of improbable. Also, at every turn luck, fortune, fate, etc. all turn our hero's way. Great concept of how to get rid of the scumbags that run iran currently, if only! General lack of knowledge and detail of iranian security forces, etc. which suprised me givin the author. I dont think I'll be reading any more joel rosy tho, too much jesus this and jesus that. I want more Tommy Carmellini type spys.

okay but not great
Revisado: 11-18-10
Pretty good overall concept, but as USUUAL, the military folks were stereotypical, and the egghead types were either evil geniuses or high minded academics. Could have been much better. I'm tired of "delta force" being portrayed as robots, etc. I'm not saying the authors have to be military experts BUT if they're going to make it part of the story they should be accurate, ex. over reliance on this or that kind of weapon that we ALL know about and comic book dialog between the soldiers, etc. Narration was fine, but I never let the narraration ruin a book for me.
