Historia
Ninety-one-year-old Gretel Fernsby has lived in the same well-to-do mansion block in London for decades. She lives a quiet, comfortable life, despite her deeply disturbing, dark past. She doesn’t talk about her escape from Nazi Germany at age 12. She doesn’t talk about the grim post-war years in France with her mother. Most of all, she doesn’t talk about her father, who was the commandant of one of the Reich’s most notorious extermination camps. All The Broken Places moves between Gretel’s girlhood in Germany to present-day London as a woman haunted by the past.

Wanted to love it
Revisado: 09-02-23
Read good things about this book. I found it boring and rather slow moving. It takes a long time for the story to unfold, and to figure out how the two hats come together. Frankly, I didn’t have the patience to finish the book.

Historia
In an orphanage outside Oslo, a 12-year-old boy is causing havoc. The institution’s aging director, Agnes Vestavik, sees something chilling in Olav’s eyes: sheer hatred. When Vestavik is found murdered, stabbed in the neck with a kitchen knife - with Olav nowhere to be found - the case goes to maverick investigator Hanne Wilhelmsen, recently promoted to superintendent in the Oslo police. Hanne suspects that Olav witnessed the murder and fled, and she orders an investigation of the orphanage staff. But Hanne is hopeless at delegating and sharing responsibilities....

Historia
Donald Trump v. The United States tells the dramatic story of those who felt compelled to confront and try to contain the most powerful man in the world as he shredded norms and sought to expand his power. Michael S. Schmidt takes listeners inside the defining events of the presidency, chronicles them up close, and records the clash between an increasingly emboldened president and those around him, who find themselves trying to thwart the president they had pledged to serve, unsure whether he is acting in the interest of the country, his ego, his family business, or Russia.

Amazing
Revisado: 09-27-20
I thought I knew everything about the Trump presidency. This book by the Pulitzer Prize winning Mike Schmidt gives you insight into how reporters get a story, and the abuse of power which has gone unchecked. Although I have read many books on Trump and thought I was “trumped out,”this book is a must read

good story and enjoyable to listen...EXCEPT when the narrator changed her voice to try to do accents. One of the detectives in the story is from New Jersey...me, too. His attempt to sound "Jersey" hurt my ears! decent story to listen to, especially during a walk

Historia
In 2011, a 26-year-old libertarian programmer named Ross Ulbricht launched the ultimate free market: the Silk Road, a clandestine website hosted on the Dark Web where anyone could trade anything - drugs, hacking software, forged passports, counterfeit cash, poisons - free of the government's watchful eye. It wasn't long before the media got wind of the new website where anyone - not just teenagers and weed dealers but terrorists and black hat hackers - could buy and sell contraband detection-free.

This is one of the most amazing books I have listened. to. What one young man accomplished compared to other web Startups is astounding. Ross was clearly a man with a passion. Driven by values, he got caught up as so many criminals do in what he was doing. This is the real life “breaking bad.”
I have been recommending this book to everybody I see who either likes a good story, a good book, an amazing take,or just a wonderful way to pass the time.
I don’t know how to describe the activity of not being able to put an audible book down. I guess this is a story you can’t turn off!!

In 2014, Theranos founder and CEO Elizabeth Holmes was widely seen as the next Steve Jobs: a brilliant Stanford dropout whose startup “unicorn” promised to revolutionize the medical industry with its breakthrough device, which performed the whole range of laboratory tests from a single drop of blood. Backed by investors such as Larry Ellison and Tim Draper, Theranos sold shares in a fundraising round that valued the company at more than $9 billion, putting Holmes’s worth at an estimated $4.5 billion.

Revisado: 09-01-18
Sometimes you read a book and, although you liked it, may be hesitant to recommend to others. That is not the case with this one! I suggested it to 5 people--all with different passions and interests. To a person they raved. It has all the elements of a good story--heroes and villains, promoters and gullible people, and people wanting to invest in the next Apple. Unfortunately, it still is the case of buyer beware, despite all our governmental controls.

Historia
A New York Times Editors' Choice Pick. Kennedy and King traces the emergence of two of the 20th century's greatest leaders, their powerful impact on each other, and on the shape of the civil rights battle between 1960 and 1963. These two men from starkly different worlds profoundly influenced each other's personal development. Kennedy's hesitation on civil rights spurred King to greater acts of courage, and King inspired Kennedy to finally make a moral commitment to equality.

A captivating "listen"
Revisado: 10-20-17
I have read many books on the Civil Rights Movement of the 60's, and have traveled to Alabama to see where "history happened." This story however, by focusing on the two primary characters presents a very different spin on how change actually happened. Throughout this book, you see how JFK morphed from a politician looking for votes to a man of principle...and how RFK was actually one of the true heroes of this era. The narrator was spectacular, changing accents to reflect the different characters. This is truly one of those audio books where every thing just comes alive.
