Harvest of Perseverance, more likely
Revisado: 07-30-23
I was deeply affected by the depth and breadth of emotions these characters experienced. The author shows us much of the ugliness of war and the human emotions associated with that. But we also accompany Carlo, Vittoria, and Paulo as they find hope in the depths of despair and fear. It was a profound journey to read this book.

Historia
New York, 1960: For Benny Lament, music is his entire life. With his father’s deep ties to the mob, the Bronx piano man has learned that love and family can get you in trouble. So he keeps to himself, writing songs for other musicians, avoiding the spotlight…until the night his father brings him to see Esther Mine sing. Esther is a petite powerhouse with a gorgeous voice. And when Benny writes a hit song and performs it with her, their collaboration thrusts the duo onto the national stage…and stirs up old issues and new scrutiny that the mob--and Benny--would rather avoid.

The descriptions, metaphors, and similes would stop me in my tracks. Excellent story with twists and turns. I have to admit, I was in it for the author's use of figurative language.

Characters that pull you in. A story that carries you along like the waters of the lagoons and wings of the marsh birds. As a reader you are also enveloped by the marsh flora and fauna, gently learning and marveling. Oh, and the poetry woven throughout. This book is a voyage you won't soon forget.

Best Lynley Ending!
Revisado: 01-30-19
I've read all the Inspector Lynley books up to this one and a few of the newest. I liked the ending of this book the best. I liked experiencing Havers first experience of being in charge right along with her. The case itself built at a good pace, and the characters were both astonishing and sympathetic. St. James, Deborah, and Helen also take part in a unique way. One of my favorites.
