Child rape and racism made it a little too crunchy for my taste.

Historia
On the right side of the law. Sort of. Sebastian Rudd is not your typical street lawyer. He works out of a customized bulletproof van, complete with Wi-Fi, a bar, a small fridge, fine leather chairs, a hidden gun compartment, and a heavily armed driver. He has no firm, no partners, no associates, and only one employee: his driver, who's also his bodyguard, law clerk, confidant, and golf caddy.

Grisham creates a uniquely sketchy-yet-likeable character then puts him through heaven and hell, making him both hero and villain. I enjoyed this book immensely!

this is a truly inspiring read. uncannily for a work of its genre, the story is saturated with hope. I would listen to it again and, perhaps, again!!

inspiring work. the reader really differentiated voices well, allowing the movie in my mind to play with ease. I was nearly late to work a few times because I was sitting in the parking lot, listening intently to this book. :) I have previously read the Oath, Visitation, and House by this author, and liked This Present Darkness at least as much, if not better. I was not sure I'd like his earlier work as much, but this one delivered relatable characters, suspense, and an artfully woven story, as I have come to expect from Peretti.

how neat to read the work of the Lord as written in the acrual words of his faithful servant 160+ years ago! there were plenty of moments when this account read like a bookkeeping ledger, but there is a compelling message through it all, and I came away greatly encouraged.

compelling story poorly read.
Revisado: 07-15-16
the reader jarringly emphasizes every "he said" amd "they exclaimed" and "she commented" throughout the whole book.
the plot is great but I did tire of hearing "I had no idea" from the protagonist. otherwise, great. did not find the protagonist's spiritual journey overwhelmed the story as others have commented.
