sadly if you have never read the book you will be lost. they crammed a 500 page book into 2 hours and thus constantly talk about scenes they skipped. if you have read the book they cut out the best parts. if they ever release an unabridged copy I will get it right away but this version is terrible.

This is the first series I have read where earth has intersteller travel and several nations are exploring the stars. The politics in this series is right on. Very good series overall.

“I have sensed a disturbance in the Force.” Ominous words under any circumstances, but all the more so when uttered by Emperor Palpatine. On Batuu, at the edges of the Unknown Regions, a threat to the Empire is taking root - its existence little more than a glimmer, its consequences as yet unknowable. But it is troubling enough to the Imperial leader to warrant investigation by his most powerful agents: ruthless enforcer Lord Darth Vader and brilliant strategist Grand Admiral Thrawn.

Its about pademe and ainkin
Revisado: 07-03-20
do you want to know how to make the clone wars a good movie? Skip all the scenes with pademe in it until the collossium. This book constantly talks about pademe which is a BORING character, I bought this book for thrawn not pademe. Eventually I just stopped listening because it dealt a lot more with pademe than thrawn.

Narraition seemed to work well at 1.2 speed
Revisado: 01-18-20
I was a little leary of getting this book because of all the comments on the narration. I personally usually listen to a naration at 1.8 speed, so that was way to fast for this book, and then i did it at normal speed and that was off to. Once I tried 1.2 it was pefect, the narrator had good inflection, I could tell the narrator was speaking differently for different characters and such. Just seems strange to me that it worked so specifically at 1.2 speed. Perhaps an equipment issue?
That said the story is amazing, hopeuflly book 2 will come out soon.

First chapter is bad porn, didnt get through it.
Revisado: 10-19-19
For whatever reason what I listened to had static in it. That said the story was awful. It starts out with a naked 15 year old running through an orchard where everyone in the town is having an orgy and women are required to have sex with anyguy who wants it. He is trying to find his 14 year old girlfriend and they plan on losing their virginity together during the orgy when he gets to her she is upset that she is only going with him instead of being passed around like a bowl of chips.
I absolutly hate how most scifi/fantasy authors write about sex. There is no civilization where men are okay with their wives having sex with other men. Swingers are a pretty rare group of people, and if you are in a middle ages civilization there is no birth control so men are pretty anti raising other peoples children. It is not logical to have a civilization where nobody knows who the father of any of the children are. Men have measurable changes in their brain when they become fathers, civilization is built upon fatherhood, so when you reject men stepping up and being fathers you have just created a world that will not work.
Tales of anyar has sex in it but it does not take you out of the story because their is logic behind it. If you are going to have sex in your story go check out tales of anyar to see how it can be part of good world building.

Following the instructions on his vision-impairing screens, he "slotted" his Xatherite and changed his fate: He gained the ability to cast spells. Now alone in the dark, he must battle through the government bunker turned dungeon in a desperate bid for survival.

The story is utter wishfullment
Revisado: 07-16-19
I tried to like this story but couldnt, and honestly I would have stopped listening sooner if the voice behind the story wasnt so good. But basicly I dislike this story a whole bunch as the character is just given everything and its not all that logical. At the begining of the story the character is given like 10 spells, and later on we find everyone is only given a couple, and of course the characters spells are so much better than everyone elses, and to top it all off where this story is pure wish fullfillment is when he killed a giant spider and got a teliportation spell out of it. That doesnt make any sense in light of the story.
What I mean is that the story says that different creatures have different spells (uses some other word but thats what it means) and if you kill them you get their spell, but why does a giant spider have a teliportation spell that they never use? Simply put I disliked the logic of this story so I stopped listening.

The first chapter is porn. Never made it to the second chapter. In my experience anybook that starts with graphic sex does so for lack of an actual story or plot, so I quit while I was ahead.

In all Honesty I really really like the first book
Revisado: 01-24-19
After the first book the story gets worse and worse, and lets just say I stopped halfway through book 6 and will never go back and listen to this story again.
I love that there are aliens living on gas giant worlds that could not care less about those who live on rocky worlds.
I love that there are aliens that live on the sun that doesnt care about those who live on rocky worlds or gas giants.
I love how the humans accedently ticked off the aliens on the gas giant world.
I love how there are a group of people who hide from the overall human empire by building secret basis and homes where nobody else wants to go.
I love how the emperor is a hand selected puppet.
This is the first book, it opens up amazingly.
Then it begins to get stupid.
The relationship between the emperor and his puppeter never ever changes, and the pupeteer constantly and constantly does stupid stuff with no consequences. This is book 2 until book 6, no change in their relationship.
The group of people who build in the middle of nowhere and kind of hide from the empire, are touted as being super adaptable, and basicly dont adapt the entire series until the author just wants to pwn the gas giant people in an extreemly disappointing way. But I thought it was stupid because the gas giant aliens killed far less of this group of people than the empire.
The aurthor introduces a group of water aliens, that unlike the sun, and gas giant aliens, do not need ships to go from planet to planet, and moves this from sci fi to pure fantasy. Seriously over powered water aliens.
And basicly from book 2 to 6 everyone does the same exact stuff in slightly different settings unless the aurother simply kills someone off in a dumb unsatisfying way.
Book 1 was amazing, but its a lie the rest of the series is awful.

Awful, just awful
Revisado: 01-24-19
I really liked the first ringworld book, but I knew there was a problem when the book starts with the author telling us how he never intended a sequal and boy does it show. My biggest complaint about the second book is that there is so much sex. I know what you are thinking, in the first book there was sex. The difference is that in the first book its made very clear that aliens mate very differently than humans and their sex organs would not work together, and that humans are unique in spending so much time and energy to mate for enjoyment. In this book the main character has sex with 4 different species before the half way mark. So if you like alien porn you will probably like this, but lets just say I am not a fan of casual sex in a story, particularly when it has nothing to do with the plot. And I think thats the difference between this story and the last, yes the characters had sex in the last story but it actually moved the plot along, this time its just shoehorned in as filler. its just awful.
There are more bad things I could say about the plot but if you like alien porn maybe you will like that stuff but I found this book to be very inconsistant with the first, and wont go into more details for those of you who will still check it out.

Wanted a sci fi book
Revisado: 08-05-18
So at the start of the book we find 7 people going to hyperion to complete a pilgramage, and the first part of the book is them telling their individual stories. 4 of them come from different christian back grounds, and all of them are talking about how christianity is dying and over.
Then one of them starts telling his story by telling someone elses story. He told the story of a catholic priest that headed to hyperion and this priest says over and over and over again that christianity is dying.
I want a sci fi story not a sermon on the death of christianity. Want a sermon on the death of christianity go listen to a sermon on the church of laodicea. The baptist openly teach that christianity pretty much has to end before the seven year tribulation so its very annoying to listen to christianity dying over and over and over again in this book.
Heck I dont even know if there is a story in this book, seemed more like a sermon on how in the future christianity will die. If thats your thing thats great, but well this isnt a story so its not my thing.
