Historia
It’s a beautiful day in Newport, Rhode Island, when Phoebe Stone arrives at the grand Cornwall Inn wearing a green dress and gold heels, not a bag in sight, alone. She's immediately mistaken by everyone in the lobby for one of the wedding people, but she’s actually the only guest at the Cornwall who isn’t here for the big event. Phoebe is here because she’s dreamed of coming for years—she hoped to shuck oysters and take sunset sails with her husband, only now she’s here without him, at rock bottom, and determined to have one last decadent splurge on herself.

Thinking suicide, no wait, weddings instead?
Revisado: 02-27-25
This is a very fun story about people that go to weddings, all of their different personalities, the family dynamics, the bride and especially the maid of. It is as much a story of how much money you can spend on a wedding if you try hard and also
not understanding yourself and who you’ve become and not believing in yourself. I loved this book. The performance was outstanding . I did a lot of laughing out loud. I imagined what the ending would be, but was completely wrong and glad I was. Very entertaining.

A detailed history of the Vietnam era and fearless nurses
Revisado: 02-17-25
I loved this book. The narration was superb. I appreciated the story more because I have been to Coronado Island and like that the story was relatable to me because I had been there. The fact that the towns and villages, and even the hospitals were real helped so much in telling the story. I am old enough to remember those years. It was a difficult time in history. I’m so glad the boys and those
fearless nurses finally got the recognition they deserved.
What a gift to have the kinds of friends that were described in this book. Forever friends! We should all be so fortunate.
The description of someone who had hit rock bottom and then was able, through the proper care, claw her way back up was inspiring. The conclusion of the book was perfect. I just loved this book. When is the movie coming out?

Solid textbook for finding missing pets and love
Revisado: 08-08-24
As an owner of many dogs in my 80 years, I loved everything about this book. I appreciated the memoir that was woven into the story of these lost dogs. Also having to deal with divorced parents, but at the same time grateful for their help in determining her life’s work. The heart warming story about her SAR/MARdog. She had to face what we all have to face with our wonderful fur babies. What a wonderful rewarding life she had with that sweet pup. Hard letting go. I truly appreciated all of the helpful tips on how to go about finding your lost pet. Such invaluable information. A must read for anyone who’s ever lost a pet or anyone interested in doing this work or even volunteering to help others doing the work.

Wonderful story
Revisado: 05-19-24
The narration in this book is just outstanding. It seem to me that it would be difficult too, between going back-and-forth from the beginnings of the war to the end of the war and then more to the present. It was done skillfully. I appreciated the narrator and her skills with French, with sounding like different men, etc. As a history buff, I really appreciated the story, the use of real places and some real people and that it had a happy ending.

The Nine follows the true story of the author’s great aunt Hélène Podliasky, who led a band of nine female resistance fighters as they escaped a German forced labor camp and made a 10-day journey across the front lines of World War II from Germany back to Paris. Drawing on incredible research, this powerful, heart-stopping narrative is a moving tribute to the power of humanity and friendship in the darkest of times.

History reminds us of our failings as humans!
Revisado: 04-21-24
The research it took to write this book is really quite unbelievable. Even though the author had a family connection to the story, she was tireless at getting to the truth even though she had the most minimal piece of family history. I’ve read lots about the holocaust, but this work had the most exhausting research I’ve heard. The facts in the story are unimaginable. I love that during the reading she explained the beginning and the middle and the end sort of all at once so I didn’t have to wait till the end to find out what happened to these women. She interspersed the past with the here and now. I appreciated that immensely. The performance of this manuscript was truly amazing.

Historia
At the end of the Second World War, Cyril Conroy combines luck and a single canny investment to begin an enormous real estate empire, propelling his family from poverty to enormous wealth. His first order of business is to buy the Dutch House, a lavish estate in the suburbs outside of Philadelphia. Meant as a surprise for his wife, the house sets in motion the undoing of everyone he loves. The story is told by Cyril’s son Danny, as he and his older sister, the brilliantly acerbic and self-assured Maeve, are exiled from the house where they grew up by their stepmother.

So Good!
Revisado: 03-28-24
In the beginning, it took me a while to understand how this book was written, and read. I had never heard a story read like this. It’s almost like a one-man show or monologue of his entire life. I don’t think I could have purchased a hard copy of this book and read it. The tone and inflections, and sounds of Mr. Hanks telling this story were as important as the story itself. I felt like he was telling his own life story. I enjoyed this book immensely, and loved Mr. Hanks.

I absolutely loved this book. It had me from the very beginning as most Ken Follett books do. There is something current about it what with the bank failure and the misuse of money. A great story, and a great performance.

This lush novel, set in 1766 England and America, evokes an era ripe with riot and revolution, from the teeming streets of London to the sprawling grounds of a Virginia plantation. Mack McAsh burns with the desire to escape his life of slavery in Scottish coal mines while Lizzie Hallim is desperate to shed a life of sheltered subjugation to her spineless husband. United in America, their only chance for freedom lies beyond the Western frontier - if they're brave enough to take it.

Follett delivers again
Revisado: 03-02-24
This story had me in the very beginning. I could not stop listening. Ken Follett is one of my favorites. The story was unique, something a little different. To go from Scotland to Virginia took some imagination. Interspersed with real places and real people made the story more believable. There were times, later in the book, where it became somewhat predictable in certain circumstances but I still loved it. I’m glad there was a happy ending.

Who hasn’t wondered for a split second what the world would be like if a person who is the object of your affliction ceased to exist? But then you’ve probably never heard of The McMasters Conservatory, dedicated to the consummate execution of the homicidal arts. To gain admission, a student must have an ethical reason for erasing someone who deeply deserves a fate no worse (nor better) than death. The campus of this “Poison Ivy League” college—its location unknown to even those who study there—is where you might find yourself the practice target of a classmate.

Historia
In April 1944, Rudolf Vrba became one of the very first Jews to escape from Auschwitz and make his way to freedom—among only a tiny handful who ever pulled off that near-impossible feat. He did it to reveal the truth of the death camp to the world—and to warn the last Jews of Europe what fate awaited them. Against all odds, Vrba and his fellow escapee, Fred Wetzler, climbed mountains, crossed rivers, and narrowly missed German bullets until they had smuggled out the first full account of Auschwitz the world had ever seen.
