Historia
The Cold Case Squad of the NYPD is overworked, understaffed, but receiving great press due to star detective Everett Larkin. His uncanny memory and Holmesian-like skills of deduction have already led to the capture of one serial killer. Now he’s identified a second predator and brought an end to their 20-plus-year reign of terror. Routine construction at a Broadway souvenir shop leads to the discovery of a mummified woman in the wall. And when Larkin receives a mysterious VHS tape that same night, he knows it’s no coincidence.

Love this series

Third installment in the Memento Mori series. More Larkin and Doyle!
A mummified corpse is found and Larkin of the Cold Case squad is called in. Another case to solve that becomes more complex as victims are identified.
The case is solved. We discover even more about Larkin and Doyle. But this is not the end of the series. I’m sure that eventually we learn who knows all of these killers and is trying to match wits with Larkin.
Kale Williams does a phenomenal job interpreting Larkin and Doyle. I always discover something I missed reading when he brings the characters to life. I hope he saves time in his busy schedule for Hudson River Homicides which Poe has tentatively scheduled for late 2024.
I highly recommend this audiobook and this author and narrator!

Perfection
Revisado: 01-18-23
I fell in love with Larkin and Doyle in Madison Square Murders. After listening to Subway Slayings ….I love them even more.
C.S. Poe has a true gift of eloquence, weaving mystery , history, and romance all together. I love the story. I’m beginning to fall in love with New York and it’s history. I can’t wait to see what Larkin and Doyle do next.
Larkin with his HSAM is a complicated detective solving cold cases and sometimes not so cold cases. Doyle is a detective with the Forensic Artist unit. You would not think there would be much need for Larkin to work with Doyle but you would be wrong.
With Subway Slayings we have a new murder, an old murder, and possibly a mysterious third party with knowledge about both.
I read Subway Slayings twice before listening to the audiobook. I must admit that I love the story even more after hearing Kale Williams interpretation of the characters in the story and events of the story. I can’t think of anyone that could possibly portray the characters better!
The story is phenomenal. The performance of Kale Williams is superb. I can hardly wait for the next in the series!

Poe has given us another wonderful story. More of Gunner and Gillian, more of the secrets they kept. The narration was great, easy for me to follow the characters.
To me it was a good ending with a good bridge to the next book to come in the series.

Wonderful addition to the series

I love this series! I fell in love with Sebastian and Calvin in The Mystery of Nevermore( 1st in the series) and each book has gotten better. The story line and dialogue are great. If you love history and mystery, you can’t go wrong with Spirits.
Wyatt Baker did an excellent job of representing Sebastian and Calvin. Their chemistry was evident. Sebastian’s snark comes through as well as Calvin’s and Sebastian’s emotions and intensity during their rare argument/ disagreements. So pleasurable listening to Mr. Baker narrate Spirits that I know I will be listening again and again.
I received a free audio copy of The Mystery of The Spirits in exchange for an honest review. And I can honestly say that it was not a chore to listen to this story. It was a joy and escape.

Loved it!
Revisado: 12-17-21
I read this book before listening to the Audible book. I knew from the start that I loved the story. I always learn something new when I read a C S Poe story and this was especially intriguing. The way Larkin and Doyle interact, the collecting facts, solving the crime, the dialogue and plot twist - all just wonderful! The crime is solved - no cliffhanger- but a new mystery introduced and the reader will eagerly await the next book.
Kale Williams did a fantastic job interpreting Larkin and Doyle for audio. In the book it is noted that Larkin doesn’t ask questions with the upward inflection that is found in English. I could not imagine how that would sound until I heard Kale Williams. It was easy to differentiate Larkin from Doyle and from other characters so that it was easy to get lost in the story. This is my first audiobook narrated by Kale Williams and he is now on the list of my favorite narrators.
