Historia
In September 1925, Scotland Yard DCI Alec Fletcher inherits a large house on the outskirts of London from a recently deceased great-uncle. Fortunately so, as he and his wife, the Honorable Daisy Dalrymple Fletcher, are the recent proud parents of twins, and their house is practically bursting at the seams. Though in need of a bit of work, this new, larger house seems a godsend - set in a small circle of houses, with Hampstead Heath nearby, the setting is idyllic. Idyllic, that is until a dead body shows up half-hidden under the bushes of the communal garden.

A tale well told
Revisado: 09-26-22
This novel is good fun. The narration is lively, amusing, and highly entertaining. All the accents are well done including the Irish and the Yanks. And the verve of the telling contributes greatly to the fun of the tale.

Historia
A disturbing tale of a young man's uncanny ability to remain both young and beautiful while descending into a life of heartless debauchery, The Picture of Dorian Gray was considered proof of both Wilde's genius and his perversion. Oscar Wilde's scandalous best seller of 1891 was one of the most damning pieces of evidence used against him in the trial that brought about his downfall.

Sub-mediocre reading
Revisado: 07-27-22
If there’s French in a text, get someone who can read French to read it - this reading is a mess. this reader’s English pronunciation is faulty as well

Historia
Once, the Lamartine Hotel was a quiet refuge for New York’s stuffy fashionable set. But by the 1890s, fashion has moved uptown, and the lobby of the Lamartine has been overtaken by natty young sports, who pass their afternoons with billiards or shows of noisy derring-do. Their preferred damsel is Lila Williams, a delicate young telegraph operator whose shyness so charms them that they resolve to defend her against any ill-behaved characters. They are about to face their fiercest challenger, who rides in the gleaming armor of a millionaire.

Jejune Stout, ill served
Revisado: 12-10-21
Earliest Rex Stout and raw, although the man couldn’t help but tell a story. But the reading here is oafish and disserves the tale sadly. The 18th century Austrian composer, “Hey-den?” Mon dieux pronounced, “moan dew?” This is incompetence of an order that should not be allowed, much less broadcast.

Good read and a travesty of a reading
Revisado: 04-06-21
The Brigadier Gerard stories are exciting and witty. Hilarious at times. The reader here expunges humor, reduces wit to dreary and insensate monotone, and mangles not only the French but the English words as well. Same assassin who murdered Verne’s fine Michael Strogoff. The fake accents grate odiously. But that’s not all. Who pronounces rogue, roog? Or tunic, tonnick? This reader does. A travesty. Audible, I’ll reread it for you gratis to placate the ghost of Conan Doyle.

Damnable excerpts not the complete novel
Revisado: 09-15-20
And damnably short excepts at that. An absolute disgrace not to represent it as that.
