Historia
After a political scandal, fledgling lobbyist Dempsey Jo Killebrew is left almost broke, unemployed, and homeless. She reluctantly accepts to refurbish Birdsong, the old family place in Guthrie, Georgia. But, oh, is Dempsey in for a surprise. "Bird Droppings" would more aptly describe the moldering Pepto Bismol - pink dump. There's also a murderously grumpy old lady who has claimed squatter's rights and isn't moving out. Ever.

Amusing at times
Revisado: 08-05-18
I loved Ella-Kate who is one of the best personalities I’ve come across in a book for quite some time, while the response from the FBI is a little farcical. I like a story to be realistic, but there are parts that are unrealistic, so it has a few flaws nonetheless.
When a book makes me laugh it definitely gets a big tick. There are some funny bits and it kept my interest.

My first from this author
Revisado: 08-05-18
I liked the multiple stories within the one story. This kept my interest. The author was able to clearly delineate the different personalities which is not always the case for some authors.
While I felt there was a bit of overkill on the difficulties of a new baby, all in all it was a good story.

Sadly disappointing
Revisado: 07-26-18
Slow and very unrealistic. The main four characters becoming two couples just doesn’t happen in reality and falling deeply in love in two months of course. Some of the other behaviours are such a stretch they’re silly.
I’ve read A Spring Affair and A Summer Fling which were both much better than this story.
Very, very slow with little happening for half of the book put me to sleep. The story lacks the layers and depth of characters found in some of Milly Johnson’s other books. This one is just not for me.

It's been months since Aden Colt left the army, and still the memories haunt him. When he moved into a tiny boat off the California coast, he thought he'd found the perfect place to escape life. Then Sawyer shows up and turns his simple life upside down. Beautiful and sophisticated, she seems out of place in this laid-back beach town. Something is pushing her to experience everything she can - including Aden. But as much as he wants her, starting a relationship with Sawyer puts them both at risk.

Purile chick lit
Revisado: 07-07-18
Eye rollingly unrealistic. The whole basis of the story is ridiculous.
SPOILER ALERT just in case.
Pretending to be your dying twin sister because your sister thinks it will be good for you.
Falls madly in love in ONE week.
Hangs out with a man miles away knowing her twin sister is dying. Really? Eye rolling at the ridiculous.
Aidan stays around 4 July fireworks knowing he has PTSD and reacts severely to pops and bangs. And of course he does react. Ludicrous.
There are so many more unrealistic examples but I’ve given this book more time than it deserves.
I rely on reviews often when looking for a book but this time my opinion of the story goes against the many.

Fairy tale meets feminism
Revisado: 06-10-18
I rely heavily on reviews when choosing a book but there were none so I put on my pioneering attitude and took the plunge. I really wasn’t sure about this one at first but once I got the ‘feel’ of the story then I was hooked. Let the story take your imagination to where you can enjoy this very different genre. It’s fun and a little kooky in parts (well what else could it be?) but never boring.
I’ve now read all three of the series. Don’t try reading book two or three without reading book one.
The narrator did a fabulous job with all the characters although I loved the gossip columnist best.

Historia
Quiet and aloof rock star Jake McKallister and outspoken, vivacious college student Casey Caldwell are polar opposites: Casey is bubbly and talkative; Jake is reclusive. Casey enjoyed a picturesque childhood; Jake’s childhood could only be described as a well-publicized nightmare. Jake’s life revolves around music, and Casey can’t carry a tune.

Chic Lit
Revisado: 05-19-18
If you like unsophisticated chic lit this is it. There’s nothing special about the story or how it is written. Unrealistic story line.
When medical conditions are an integral part of the story, there needs to be accurate medical facts and realistic details.
The story is seriously lacking in depth.

I just cannot listen anymore!
Revisado: 04-22-18
The narration is just indescribably awful. The voice just does not fit with a young Mum after two marriages. No woman in this day and age is that naive and silly.
The story is bland and boring so maybe the narration is a good fit. My first Carole Matthews book and possibly the only one.
I can’t listen to anymore of it.

My second Jane Fallon read which may be my last.
Revisado: 04-14-18
I really enjoyed my first Jane Fallon read but learned originality is not her strong suite.
In both books the protagonist is around 40 with no children. In both books a character is allergic to cats. In both books a professional demonstrates complete lack of skill and appears extremely stupid and not believable at all.
It’s like Jane writes to a rigid recipe which in isolation is okay but I had to stop several times to remind myself which book I was reading.

Fine, fine. Sharing an apartment with my buddy's smoking-hot and incredibly amazing little sister seems like a recipe for disaster. But I desperately need a place close to work, and I swear I’ll behave. How hard can it be to share 500 square feet with the brilliant, beautiful total firecracker who’s my good friend too? Please. It’s sooo easy to hang out with Josie every night, to test out her new brownie recipes after work, to shop for towels and banana hangers on weekends. Until one night when she asks if she can join me under the covers. Platonically, of course.

No story. This book was going nowhere and I just couldn’t finish it. The first book in the series was okay but this one is smutty, crass with no clever humour just a lot of lewd paragraphs.
