Little Gem
Revisado: 10-06-24
There is so much content out there it’s hard to know what’s good. I’ve experimented with many books and abandoned them early on or half way through when they just weren’t up to scratch. This is not one of those. It captivating and has just the right amount of humor not to take itself too seriously. It’s a lot of fun but not mindless.

Who would have guessed that? When these cruel gods shuffled Earth like a deck of cards, nothing was in the same place anymore. Monsters, dungeons, and magical items appear scattered across the globe. And suddenly, everyone has access to a new, strange magical card system that gives them magical powers.

I was skeptical
Revisado: 03-28-24
I wasn’t sure of this book. Reviews looked good but I’ve been fooled by those before. Not withstanding all the skepticism I took a chance and was richly rewarded. It’s a great story with a wonderful twist. They say there’s nothing new under the sun… except sometimes there is… 😃

Brilliant Exposition
Revisado: 11-07-23
I read about half the book and finished the rest by audio. Both experiences were wonderful. Speaker for the Dead is a wonderful work of fiction, it is grand in a way that only Science Fiction can be, it is deep, like literature while being exciting and fun, like a Hollywood blockbuster. It’s the perfect sequel to Ender’s Game and better than its predecessor. Looking forward to the next in the series.

Historia
Terrance Denby takes an unusual route to work one day and finds himself in an enchanted forest where winged fairies give him a sword and tell him, “Your journey is about to begin. Learn to use this sword or perish.” Terrance doesn’t have time to go on a magical quest: he’s late for his job as a computer programmer. But when he gets to work, he suddenly notices things he hadn’t seen before. Like the fact that his boss is a demon with scaly skin, horns, and bloodstained fangs.

A fun listen
Revisado: 10-13-22
I would give it a 5 star. The story is original enough, the characters are funny and the pacing is good. I knock it only for I thought the story was a little to simplistic, it isn’t bad, nor are there any gaping plot holes or annoyances. It’s just a tad simple and I would have liked something with more depth. I still highly recommend it for anyone who wants a light hearted adventure which mixes web developers with fairies and demons!

A Must Read or Listen
Revisado: 08-16-22
Narrated well. The book is long but has you hooked all the way. It’s blown me away. I knew there was stuff happening. But how it happened, how close we got to total catastrophe and how many times is astonishing.

Historia
Totalitarianism is not a coincidence and does not form in a vacuum. It arises from a collective psychosis that has followed a predictable script throughout history. In The Psychology of Totalitarianism, world-renowned Professor of Clinical Psychology Mattias Desmet deconstructs the societal conditions that allow this collective psychosis to take hold. By looking at our current situation and identifying the phenomenon of “mass formation”—a type of collective hypnosis—he clearly illustrates how close we are to surrendering to totalitarian regimes.

Closing the Story
Revisado: 06-06-22
This was the second and final book in the series. It closed the story off in a nice clean and satisfying way. I really liked it, kept me entertained on a long journey while posing some nice philosophical conundrums without taking itself too seriously. The world building is completely self complained and it works as a sci-fi with vampires and dragons. Very cleverly done. Gerrold is a genius of this genre.

Absolute must read
Revisado: 02-10-20
Wow, this book is explosive. It gives you not just an inner look into the main characters cast but also great insight in how the political game is played in general. It matters not that these chosen individuals are corrupt but how they hide it, how they portray themselves on the national/international stage is what I found interesting.
