BUT ... the grammar and word choice errors are SO consistently off that the distraction is near-constant.
It comes across like some/much of it is actually google-translated from another language.
I don't think I'm exaggerating to say that at least 50% of the prepositions are ungrammatical/incorrect (mispronounced words are an issue, too, but to a lesser extent).
Amazing? Well, yes, though not in a great way.
Was an expert proofreader not available ... anywhere ... at all?!
Also, the description doesn't thoroughly present the actual material. The HEAVY level of crystals/chakras content is not mentioned AT ALL on the book's page. Some people will be interested in this, I'm sure (not me), and I would have bought a different book on the narcissist/empath topic(s) if I'd known. I'll be trying to exchange this one.

... in literary terms, an ingenious work of post-modern, meta-fictional, deconstructionist text using the "lowbrow" genre of superhero/comic book tropes as an insightful/artful structural mechanism with which to subvert and reorient archetypes of power, autonomy in hierarchies, traditional ethics, and social constructs in workplace, political-bureaucratic economics, familial and romantic relationships, and interpersonal/intrapersonal conceptions of self-image, achievement, fulfillment, and vocational/career success.

Would you listen to The Guns of August again? Why?

Ms. Tuchman's insights, scholarship, and incisive turns of phrase are perfectly (PERFECTLY) matched and complemented with Ms. May's energetic and engaging narration. The text is alive with the writer's interpretive skills (and wit), and it is put on vivid display with the narrator's profound gifts (and enthusiasm).

Since listening to this book, I have either bought or plan to buy every one of their "team-ups" and most things they've done separately.

What disappointed you about The Extinction Cycle Boxed Set?

I think it COULD HAVE been good. I don't think it was a failure of writing as much as a failure of editing. Another draft or two and/or refining input from a more attentive/invested editor might have made a tremendous difference. Many incidents of words and phrases used repetitively-- sometimes in the same paragraph-- could have been productively "exterminated," for example.

This isn't written to be snarky or rude; I just honestly think it under-delivered and could have fairly easily been much more engaging and effective.

Really surprised by how much I did NOT like this collection. Thought it might be fun and diverting and maybe occasionally thought-provoking. But ... not so much. Thought about returning it, but maybe I'll give it another try someday. Very maybe.
