I wanted to like this...

I'm sure there will be people who like this series. it just wasn't for me. I had to stop about halfway through the second book. The dialog between characters was just too bad. Two brothers hug and simultaneously say "badass brothers for life!" That's just one example, and it got worse. I hate leaving negative reviews. Like I said, there are probably people who will enjoy this series, but I just couldn't.

Excellent Story

I loved the story, the characters, the first person pov, ans it had great narration that kept me engaged through all 3 books. It was definitely something a little different.

Excellent Series

This series kept me engaged the whole time. Book #5 was a little strange in thr beginning, trying to explain stuff going on in Europe and China. It didn't really seem to add much to the story and seemed a little out of place. But all in all, I really enjoyed it.

Never been more happy for a series to end

I hate giving negative reviews, but this series was a struggle to finish. The main character Megan, is the absolute last person anyone would want to survive the apocalypse with. She made purely emotional based decisions and got people killed. She was also constantly "amazed" by learning new skills. And the things she was amazed by were pretty small. The narrator made her sound like an angsty teen. Her husband was apparently a former Navy Seal, but lacked a lot of survival skills. I don't know how he put up with her. In one chapter the distance to a destination would be a 12hr hike. In the next, they could miraculously do it in 3. So many things were just improbable.

I've really enjoyed this series. I drive a lot for work, so I listen to a lot of audiobooks. I'm so disappointed the rest of the series isn't available after this.

Lots of stuff going on

So, the author took a bunch of elements from different movies and mashed them together. At first, I thought this might be rough to listen to, but he did a great job. It's got a little top gun, a little star trek, a little star wars, and some clash of thr titans. I loved the narrator as well. He does a voice that sounds EXACTLY like Captain Picard (Patrick Stewart). Finished the first 3 books, can't wait for the rest!

Really Enjoyed

I read mixed reviews on this one. Some didn't like the story, some didn't like the narrator, and some complained about the characters. I thought all were spot on. I enjoyed the whole series.

Tough to get into

The first book was a little tough to get into, but it gets better. They just throw a lot at you all at once with all kinds of characters with strange names and some have multiple names. Plus there's all the Marine lingo, but if you're a former Marine that part is easy enough to follow. Once you're somewhat able to track who is who and what's going on, the story gets good. Overall, I really liked the story. It was very imaginative. If you are adverse to foul language, this isn't the book for you.

Great Series

I love the whole series. My only criticism was the when the narrator would read Molle vest as mole, like as a Mexican dish. It's actually pronounced Molly. Not a big thing, just made me cringe a little every time he said it. Great series though.

Fiction story about a real life possibility

This is a very powerful story. I'm not a doomsday prepper bu any means, but it really does make you think about how woefully ill-prepared most of us are for a minor disaster; let alone something of this magnitude. It made me cry on several occasions just due to the fact that it made me think about my kids and my family in the same situation. I highly recommend.
