Historia
When the Knight Bus crashes through the darkness and screeches to a halt in front of him, it's the start of another far from ordinary year at Hogwarts for Harry Potter. Sirius Black, escaped mass-murderer and follower of Lord Voldemort, is on the run - and they say he is coming after Harry. In his first ever Divination class, Professor Trelawney sees an omen of death in Harry's tea leaves... But perhaps most terrifying of all are the Dementors patrolling the school grounds, with their soul-sucking kiss...

I’m old but I still enjoy Harry
Revisado: 02-26-25
The characters are well written, believable and compelling. Even if one knows there are no actual wizards in this world we also know it would be better and much more Interesting if there were.
Also I found I cared about Harry and his situation. I love his willingness to experience adventures.
I’ve been a college teacher most of my adult life but I would have loved to work at Hogwarts. Way more fun than Harvard!

Historia
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

Enchantingly Fabulous
Revisado: 01-15-25
The brilliance of the imaginative very visual writing. The story has a beautiful fluid nature, and I’ve listened to it many times, and I am a well educated intellectual person.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

Wonderful book great reader
Revisado: 02-16-23
This magical book is based on the realism of daily life. The story moves fluidly and is compelling without feeling tricky. One cares about the characters. And honestly I was sad when it came to the end.

Historia
The Overstory unfolds in concentric rings of interlocking fable that range from antebellum New York to the late 20th-century Timber Wars of the Pacific Northwest and beyond. An air force loadmaster in the Vietnam War is shot out of the sky, then saved by falling into a banyan. An artist inherits 100 years of photographic portraits, all of the same doomed American chestnut. A hard-partying undergraduate in the late 1980s electrocutes herself, dies, and is sent back into life by creatures of air and light.

Brilliant and Compelling
Revisado: 02-14-19
An incredible story about the science of forestry woven evocatively as we observe the histories of wildly different people involved in a world that connects them. It’s good science. It’s a great study of social behavior in our times. You care about the characters and the subjects range from nature in its ancient beginnings to the crazy invention of computers, video games and love, familial, romantic, and spiritual. what a fine Ride. Historia
Thanks to a successful interview with the painfully shy E.B. White, a beautiful, 19-year-old, blue-eyed blonde from the cornfields of Iowa lands a job as a receptionist at The New Yorker magazine. There she stays two decades, becoming general all-around factotum - watching and registering the comings and goings, marriages and divorces, scandalous affairs, failures, triumphs, and tragedies of the eccentric inhabitants of the 18th floor. Though she dreamed of becoming a writer, she never advanced at the magazine.

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
this is not ;a well written book it is like a book report . . it is difficult to care about her travails she starts out saying she wanted to be one and stopped could and gives us no reason to pay attention to anything she thinks if one has read aboutt hese people already there appears to be an absence of insight...yup she had fun, well, I don't have 7 hours for htis.
Has The Receptionist turned you off from other books in this genre?
what genre being a receptionist?
How did the narrator detract from the book?
dull
What character would you cut from The Receptionist?
the writer
Any additional comments?
nope, I would like to know how to get another, I find the website uncomfortable
