Historia
Today, a new movement is under way, bringing Christians of every denomination, age, race, and sexual orientation together around dinner tables. Men and women nervous about stepping through church doors are finding God in new ways as they eat together. Kendall Vanderslice shares stories of churches worshiping around the table, introducing listeners to the rising contemporary dinner-church movement. We Will Feast provides vision and inspiration to listeners longing to experience community in a real, physical way.

Accents Christ as LORD of creation & loving others
Revisado: 10-03-19
I like that Kendall Vanderslice's "We Will Feast" may introduce the reader, especially Protestants, to the concept of the LORD's sanctification of food and, by extension all of life; she repeatedly uses the term Sacramental in one form or another.
While I disagree with much of her theological explanations and exegesis, I pray the LORD will use her work to help those who wish to live as His disciples. For lack of a better term, what seems to me to be a Neo-Gnostic downplaying of the material world in modern, especially Protestant theology, God using the material world in general and food specifically to connect with us and connect us to others is what I like most about this book.
I vehemently disagree with her view that, referring to the LORD, "He didn't first ask us to believe in the right things but to practice them" as unbiblical; nevertheless, I also liked her examples and suggestions on various ways to connect with others, especially in an evangelistic context. For this reason and for how she reminds the reader that Christ, by His Incarnation, sanctifies all of life in general and food specifically.

Historia
This book is written by a parent for parents who are facing this difficult situation now. It covers not only some useful tools to use in guiding your child but also gives you the parent some help in coping with an often terrifying and deeply upsetting scenario. It doesn't matter what issues or multiple issues you are being confronted with, there is something to help within this book. This book aims to give hope when hope is in short supply and remind parents that even though they may be weathering the storm from hell right now calmer waters are not far away.

Good book for families with teens & pre-teens!
Revisado: 10-01-19
I think this is a good book for anyone working with young people. Moreover, I think it would be a good book for pre-teen parents or anyone with pre-teens in their extended family (aunts/uncles/etc.) in order to be better equipped to parent teens, especially if they become "troubled" teens. I liked the way Susan Greenway narrated this book. I recommend this book.

Historia
A condition as old as the ancients, despondency thrives in today's culture of leisure, anxiety, and digital distraction. Time and Despondency is a penetrating synthesis of ancient theology, spiritual memoir, and self-help practicality. It envisions despondency as the extension of a broken relationship with the experience of time.

I found this audiobook to be both interesting, informative and timely. I like it when authors narrate their own work and plan to listen to this book again. I highly recommend it and think it would be great if more young adults listened to/read this book.

Historia
The figure of Dietrich Bonhoeffer (1906-1945) has become a clay puppet in modern American politics. Secular, radical, liberal, and evangelical interpreters variously shape and mold the martyr’s legacy to suit their own pet agendas. Stephen Haynes offers an incisive and clarifying perspective. A recognized Bonhoeffer expert, Haynes examines “populist” readings of Bonhoeffer, including the acclaimed biography by Eric Metaxas, Bonhoeffer: Pastor, Martyr, Prophet, Spy.

Great for someone familiar with Bohnoeffer
Revisado: 09-30-19
I think this is a audiobook that would be better appreciated by someone very familiar with Bonhoeffer; if I were more familiar with this famous Christian, and with other works about him, I would have liked it even more. I enjoyed learning about the "misappropriation" of Bonhoeffer by those from whom Bonhoeffer would, perhaps, not have associated with.

Whether drinking Red Bull, relieving chronic pain with oxycodone, or experimenting with Ecstasy, Americans participate in a culture of self-medication, using psychoactive substances to enhance or manage moods. A "drug-free America" seems to be a fantasyland that most people don't want to inhabit. High: Drugs, Desire, and a Nation of Users asks fundamental questions about US drug policies and social norms.

Challenging and informative
Revisado: 09-30-19
I liked this audio book because of how thorough Ingrid Walker delved into the subject. Also, as a lifelong anti-drug, non-abuser, I found Sally Martin making me question the wisdom of continuing the war on drugs with a continued inefficient and ineffective approach. I also liked the way Sally Martin narrated this audiobook.

Historia
Skeptics believe we don’t need God to understand reality, and that science and reason hold the keys to building a better world. Faith is blind, and there is no credible evidence for God’s existence - especially the God of the Bible. Therefore, science and religious belief are deeply incompatible, and God is no longer relevant to our modern world. But if there is no God, how can our lives have any meaning? How can we make sense of good and evil, truth, justice, beauty, rationality, or even science itself?

In a world of unending assaults on faith, I found this audiobook to be intellectually satisfying and very supportive of ideas that are foundational to faith in God. I found it difficult to stop listening. I recommend Zachary Broom's work and, especially, liked that he narrated it.

Historia
Man’s Search for Meaning is the chilling yet inspirational story of Viktor Frankl’s struggle to hold on to hope during the unspeakable horrors of his years as a prisoner in Nazi concentration camps. Between 1942 and 1945 Frankl labored in four different camps, including Auschwitz, while his parents, brother, and pregnant wife perished. Based on his own experience and the experiences of those he treated in his practice, Frankl argues that we cannot avoid suffering, but we can choose how to cope with it, find meaning in it, and move forward with renewed purpose.

When was the last time someone around you brought up World War Two?
It’s a pretty popular war. Maybe you heard about it yesterday. Maybe last month. But it was probably recent. And when it came up, did you wish that you could be the one to casually drop a fact that would have everyone in the room going, “Wow, I never knew that!”
With this audiobook, you can be that person.
You can listen to it just a few minutes a day.

Historia
“Believe me” may be the most commonly used phrase in Donald Trump’s lexicon. Whether about building a wall or protecting the Christian heritage, the refrain is constant. And to the surprise of many, about 80 percent of white evangelicals have believed Trump. Historian John Fea is not surprised - and in Believe Me he explains how we have arrived at this unprecedented moment in American politics. In this audiobook, Fea challenges his fellow believers to replace fear with hope, the pursuit of power with humility, and nostalgia with history.

A very worthwhile social criticism
Revisado: 09-02-19
This book is a worthwhile work of social criticism by historian John Fea, a self-described Evangelical. He presents the “Evangelical road to Donald Trump” as one paved with fear, the pursuit of power and an unsubstantiated nostalgia. Instead, he urges voters, especially Christians, to make social and political choices based on hope instead of fear, on humility instead of the pursuit of power, and to a responsible use of American history. As a non-Evangelical Christian who voted for Trump, and while I would vote for Trump again if the other choice is a politician with the views consistent with the views expressed by Sanders, Clinton, and Obama, I recommend this book because of how Fea made me examine how my political choices may be inconsistent with the Christian call to faith, hope and love.
