Overwhelming sadness
Revisado: 07-02-24
I don’t review books very often even though I read/listen to 50 plus books a year, or I did. I’ve become tired of disappointment and this book is a perfect example. I honestly cant find anything redeeming in this exhausting tomb that ultimately has no point.

Narration needs work
Revisado: 12-16-23
Why would the narrator affect a deep southern drawl for someone from Detroit? That’s like a member of the Peerage having a cockney accent. Do a little research

Absolute Rubbish
Revisado: 10-15-23
I can honestly say this was one of the worst post apocalyptic books I’ve ever read. It felt like it was written by a 5th grader. It would have been more authentic if it had been written as just a murder mystery then we wouldn’t have all the gaping holes of logic. This was my first and last read by this author.

Stop the stupidity
Revisado: 08-10-22
How can a woman as empathetic as Carrie ever love a man who could whip a child to death? Even in the age of slavery when many believed a black person was an animal.. would you think a person who would whip an animal to death was fundamentally a good person??? No… I can’t believe that and will not read any more of this series.

I have exactly 5 hours and 10 minutes to get from Boston to New York City or the professional opportunity of a lifetime disappears. My only travel option? The second to last seat on a discount bus. Across from the bathroom. Wearing last night’s clothes (don’t ask). All worth it if I can make it in time.

Revisado: 01-30-22
To say I’m disappointed would be such an understatement. I waited so long for this book and it’s just so bad on so many levels. Apparently Diana Gabaldon thought the story no longer matters.. just the history lesson.

Revisado: 01-30-22
Don’t buy this book. It’s so awful I couldn’t finish it. Why do authors feel it necessary to spew this kind of crap onto the pages of a book? What idiot of an editor thought this was worth publishing? Ridiculous

Historia
A mummified corpse, over half a century old, is found in the cellar of an abandoned building in a remote New Mexico ghost town. Corrie Swanson is assigned what seems to her a throwaway case: to ID the body and determine cause of death. She brings archaeologist Nora Kelly to excavate the body and lend her expertise to the investigation, and together they uncover something unexpected and shocking: the deceased apparently died in agony, in a fetal position, skin coming off in sheets, with a rictus of horror frozen on his face. Hidden on the corpse lies a 16th-century Spanish gold cross.

Worst narrator I’ve ever heard
Revisado: 01-20-22
It was so difficult to get past the horrible narration to know if the writing itself was any good! I will say that the first chapter included an incredibly poorly written encounter between Corrie and a perpetrator who had killed a mother and held the child hostage. There was NO value to this disgusting exchange and I would have stopped there but thought I should give the book more of a chance just because of the premise. Because of the narration it’s not likely I will read any further novels by these authors.
